This is an Italian sex comedy that, like the earlier sex comedy "Il Gatto Mammone", combines the comic stylings of Lando Buzzanca ("The Eroticist", "Il Domestico") with gorgeous, oft-nude body of Gloria Guida (Miss Teen Italy of 1974). Actually, Guida gets to demonstrate a few comic styling of her own as a bohemian theater "actress" who lives in cramped apartment with a whole bunch of other clothing-averse bohemian types. She is very devoted to her older beau Buzzanca, but his life is very complicated due to his own devotion to his very big and very old dog, the ironically named "Piccolo" (basically "Tiny"), and his even older grandmother. In order to take care of these two dependents, he forsakes his loyal girlfriend for a rich female pharmacist (Andrea Ferriola) and moves in with her and her haughty bourgeois mother and aunts--with disastrous results for all involved.
I've seen enough Italian sex comedies now that I've started to actually watch them partly for the comedy (I think it may be time to seek professional help). Lando Buzzanca is undoubtedly the best of the male Italian comic actors of that era, and even though the ever-luscious Guida doesn't have nearly as much screen time here as she usually does her in her many films with the likes of Lino Banfi and Alvaro Vitali, I'd still rather watch her do her thing in a generally superior Lando Buzzanca film. Unlike "The Eroticist" and "Il Domestico" this isn't particularly satirical (aside from poking some fun at pretentious bourgeois types and counter-culture bohemian layabouts), but it is an actually touching story of a man who can't bear to rid himself two elderly creatures that won't die. Buzzanca could, and frequently did, play a comic buffoon as well as Banfi and Vitali, but he also often showed an ability to go beyond that that Banfi or Vitali never possessed. The elderly actress playing the grandmother and the canine actor playing "Piccolo" are also quite good. And Gloria Guida is Gloria Guida, which is all she ever needs to be, but she does more comic acting than usual here even in a somewhat smaller role. If you like Italian sex comedies in general, this is worth checking out.
