It's a little-known fact that alligators in the Everglades actually hibernate! During this time, birds are able to nest without danger, and Woody Woodpecker just happens to be stopping by for a rest. Quotes

Narrator: Deep in the heart of the steaming Everglades lurks the ferocious alligator. But it is a little known fact that in certain months of the year, the alligator lies in a dormant state. Like bears, he hibernates. During this period of hibernation, while the alligator is sleeping, our little feathered friends can nest in perfect safety. So this otherwise dangerous and deadly terrain is converted into a peaceful bird sanctuary.
Woody Woodpecker: A peaceful bird sanctuary? Just what I'm looking for!

One of the best. A true classic!

Who can resist a woodpecker trying to put an alligator to sleep so he can make an alligator bag? And the genius behind having Woody spell out Rockabye Baby using semaphore is just unsurpassed! Walter Lantz deserves a special place in heaven for creating Woody, the best cartoon character of all time.
