Well-done pollyannaish view of porn industry
lor_26 January 2021
Prolific director Jack Stephen (here credited as Jeffrey Stevens) directed this very early Wicked Pictures release, starring Debi Diamond in the title role. It's interesting casting, as she was a seasoned performer (8 years in the business) at time of shooting.

Featured in a major NonSex role and credited with the screenplay is Firehawk, playing Edward Gold, a porn director anxious to find a new actress for his latest feature. Debi is strapped for cash and goes to an audition, against the wishes of her lazybones boyfriend Marc Wallice.

What follows is an obviously sanitized but earnest presentation of how the porn biz works - oddly believable though clearly Firehawk's carefully proselytizing view of a nice place to work. He even scrupulously refuses to engage in casting couch action with Debi, even though she expects to have to put out to win a role.

He likes her cold reading of a few lines from his script and approves of her physical beauty when she strips for Polaroids to be shot. For two sex scenes he signs her for $1,000 plus $300 for the box cover shoot, fun inside info about the business circa 30 years ago in the VHS era.

We get to see the shooting of the porn video, and a fun subplot where her co-star, portrayed by Mike Horner, stiffs Gold for $200 when he needs money fast and then even fails to show up for an afternoon scene. Story line depends heavily upon coincidence, but is light entertainment that's easy to take.

Cast includes all-time great Sharon Kane as Gold's wife, but is hardly up to the star standard of Wicked, which would become a major label soon after thanks to its superstars Chasey Lain and Jenna Jameson.
