Spunky (from the old Hunky And Spunky cartoons) is a lonely little donkey. He sees a pair of songbirds and a pair of swans being romantic by the moonlight and wishes he could also find love. He sees a female horse at a carnival and tries to woo her with flowers, but she already has a boyfriend. Then Spunky hears a voice calling him, which turns out to be a carousel horse asking him to free her. Spunky takes his new girlfriend, named Marilyn, around the carnival and wins her a sombrero and a box of candy. Later on the roller-coaster Marilyn loses her sombrero and Spunky retrieves it, only to discover that Marilyn is gone. He eventually finds her back on the carousel, where he joins her so they can be together.
