User Reviews

No Ifs, Ands or Butts was an interesting, if not very entertaining, late Famous Studios Noveltoon short

This was another cartoon I watched on ThadBlog. It was part of a column called "Saved From the Dumpster" of which this cartoon was one of several Paramount/Famous Studios shorts recovered from a former theatre owner's collection. This one has a cat trying to stop from smoking so he sends for a book that gets delivered right away as the postman takes his envelope and puts the book in his hands in seconds flat! That book says to eat a crow salad which the cat reads as Buzzy comes to the window and asks for a smoke. Guess what happens. Some interesting animated gags but I didn't find much of what happened very funny though the full animation during this time was certainly at its best here. Maybe the timing was off or I've seen material like this performed better at Warner Bros. or M-G-M. Still, No Ifs, Ands or Butts is worth a look if you're curious about rare Famous Studios cartoons just before UPA's limited, if more modern, designs permeated the entire motion picture cartoon industry during the rest of the '50s.
