Siega at head of 'Underclassman'

29 June 2003 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Video and television helmer Marcos Siega will make his feature directorial debut on Miramax Films' The Underclassman, starring Nick Cannon, who is also executive producing. The project begins shooting Sept. 15 in Los Angeles. Based on Cannon's idea, Underclassman is described as Beverly Hills Cop meets Never Been Kissed. It sees Cannon star as a 24-year-old detective who, with his schoolboy looks, doesn't get any respect from his peers, who constantly send him on petty assignments to the mall and such. When he goes undercover at an elite private school, he stumbles upon an international stolen-car ring involving some of the students. Underclassman was written by National Lampoon's Van Wilder scribes David Wagner and Brent Goldberg. It was originally picked up as pitch in a pre-emptive bid by the studio (HR 12/19). Miramax co-president of production Bob Osher and executives Christian McLaughlin and Laura Rister brought the project into Miramax and will oversee it for the company. Cannon's manager Michael Goldman is executive producing with Cannon, as is Doug Johnson. Siega, repped by Endeavor, manager Matt Weaver and Stone, Meyer, Genow, has directed videos for such artists as Weezer, Blink 182 and Kelly Osbourne. He also has directed episodes of television's Fastlane and Oliver Beene. »
