Who was this piece of junk made for?
9 November 2009 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Since the release of "Halloween" some decades ago there have been multiple Horror films, mostly slasher, since that have taken place on that October holiday. Some, like "Night of the Demons," are worth the effort while others deserve to be forgotten. Some are so bad that taking every copy and burning them would be best. "Hollow Gate," a super low budget straight to video slasher film set on Halloween sure deserves that fate. This is a film made by people who I'm sure were having fun, but who obviously know nothing about making a good Horror film, or a good film in general.

Pros: A creepy score. The performances aren't good exactly, but at least they're lively. Decently paced.

Cons: Bland direction. Amateurishly written. Dialogue that sounds like it was written by a child. Totally lacking in characters with depth. Plot wears thin real quick. Not one bit scary or suspenseful. An unneeded set-up for a sequel that thankfully has never come.

Final thoughts: This may not be the worst film ever made, but it's still a major waste of time. Just because you have a fondness for Horror films doesn't mean you know how to make one. I wasn't expecting greatness here, but it could have at least been a guilty pleasure. But it's not even worthy of that.

My rating: 1/5
