The folks at Famous Studios offered their audience the famous bouncing ball to lead them in the song "In the Good Old Summertime" in this amusing in this typically amusing Screen Song.
A quarter of a century earlier, the Fleischer brothers, in Famous' predecessor, had also covered the song, but times and tastes had changed. Instead of the anarchic jokes the Fleischers had preferred, this one offers a series of jokes based on springtime and summer flowers in a field a family of pigs picnics in, and goes on to fill out the cartoon with similarly innocuous gags.
It's aimed squarely at children -- or the parents of children who might be concerned their precious snowflakes might be rendered neurotic by stronger jokes. I preferred the stronger jokes of the earlier series, but these are done expertly enough to be a bit of all right.
