Yesterday, I watched my first Scrappy cartoon, "The Little Pest". I loved it--mostly because it was so violent and inappropriate for young kids. It was a far cry from the usual ultra-cute cartoon of the age--and that is a VERY good thing, as other cartoons from the time were pretty insipid. I loved the cartoon so much, I went looking for another one of these lost films from Columbia Pictures.
The next one I found was "Camping Out". Sadly, it was not much like "The Little Pest" at all. The film was far less violent, far less fun and had LOTS of the god-awful singing and dancing that made other contemporary cartoons so terrible (with the exception of Disney). Only occasionally was it interesting--mostly it consisted of Scrappy and Oogie's dog running about with various forest animals--barking and chasing them--all set to music.
