Storyline

Three women from three different generations and walks of life find themselves in a very hot, semi-deserted Spanish town. Patricia is a 17 year old roaming Spain in search for a certain man; Sol is 27, a door-to-door salesgirl in dire economic straits who has just been thrown out of her apartment; and Virginia is a middle aged housewife, who after 20 years decides to start a new life. These three spend a very unique 24 hour period together, often acting, as the title suggests, as modern day "witches." Written by Gonz30

An unpredictable dramatic comedy
26 February 2017 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

It is an unpredictable dramatic comedy that follows from one to two days the wanderings of three women who by chance of life have been joined Great film that bases its best tricks in an essential choral style before the unthinkable fragmentation that threatens the group to the edge in each horizon. They are three different ways of interpreting life, criticized in some respects and great in others, with what it seems that in fact the director's intention is to propose a division in the principles of morality of the spectator and make him think, The three "witches" represent, each in its own way, three key moments in the life of any person. They represent anger, despair and at the same time the desire to move forward.

The three characters complement each other magnificently, along with the brilliant interaction with the supporting actors, with splendid performance all, especially Alex Angulo. It is a very good Spanish film, belonging to a dramatic sub genre with picaresque tints where it tells the uniqueness of human experience and behavior.

The cast is led by a great actress, Beatriz Carvajal accompanied by a more youthful tandem, Ana Alvarez and a young Penélope Cruz, who works well in a good role, superior to others of her early work as an actress, unfairly undervalued.
