On the set of a "Designing Women" type sitcom, with all of the Southern bell-turned-sitcom-star behind the scenes action, battles with the producers, and sexual double-dealings.
Did You Know?
The title suggested a take-off on "Northern Exposure," but this was "Designing Women" all the way, or, at least, a satire on the tabloid news stories behind the making of the popular TV sitcom. At this time, star Delta Burke, with the support of her real-life husband, fellow TV star Gerald McRaney, was fighting husband/wife, writer/producer team Harry Thomason and Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. Co-stars Dixie Carter, Jean Smart, and Annie Potts were trying to stay clear of the in-house feuding. As for this satire, note the names of the characters: Bella Birch and husband Gordon McLaney, producers Harry Thompson and Linda Bloodleach-Thompson, and sitcom co-stars Dixie Smarter and Fannie Potts.
