Keep the Cool, Baby is an interesting Shamus Culhane cartoon from the Famous/Paramount Studio
3 June 2009 | by (Baton Rouge, La.) – See all my reviews

In this Go Go Toon from the final years of Famous/Paramount cartoons, a spider wakes up from his bed looking for something to eat. First, a finds a wasp beats him to a pulp, then a moth who speaks as a proper Brit that feigns ignorance but also gets the best of him, and finally a kid worm who has designs himself on the spider...The first segment with the wasp wasn't that amusing but I liked the moth that sounded like Terry-Thomas and the ending was pretty funny. Shamus Culhane was in charge of the studio at this point and while the animation isn't that great, the character designs are interesting and the music-by Winston Sharples-has that cool jazz vibe. So on that note, Keep the Cool, Baby is worth a look. P.S. Ruth Fleischer Kneitel-Max's daughter and the wife of the late Famous director Seymour-co-wrote the story with Culhane.
