7 Reasons Why Being A “Big Man” Is Not Best For Business In WWE

28 September 2015 9:21 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Here’s a few facts about WWE at-present.

The WWE World Champion is billed at 218 pounds and is just over six feet tall. The Nxt Champion is billed at 190 pounds and is well under six feet tall. Currently, Seth Rollins is feuding with Kane for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Kane is seven feet tall and 300 pounds. As well, in Nxt, Baron Corbin is 6’8″ 275 pounds, and has been well protected by the booking to the point where if he hit Finn Balor with the End of Days and won the Nxt Championship, nobody would be surprised.

WWE’s at a crossroads when it comes to size in regards to their modern presentation. “New York” has always been a big man territory. However, as with all things, as generations change, perceptions should, too.

The company’s at a place where its most compelling performers (save legends Brock Lesnar and »

WWE Nxt 16/09/15 Recap & Review – Bayley in action, Apollo Crews vs. Solomon Crowe, The Dusty Rhodes Classic continues and more

17 September 2015 10:36 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We’ve just had a new set of tapings, so this feels like a complete show – it’s this week’s Nxt Review…

1. Tyler Breeze vs. Adam Rose

Byron Saxton is back on commentary. Yippie. They showed clips of Breeze attacked Dempsey after their tag team loss last week. I really wish they’d kept that team together. Adam Rose comes down to the ring and says that WWE took a “big steaming poop” on his parade, and so he’s now here to take one on Nxt. He said that there will be no more fun. So his new gimmick is that he’s a party pooper. Dempsey comes out with a new t-shirt and he cuts a promo on Breeze. Tyler starts to cut a promo back, but the crowd drown him out in “Bull is gorgeous chants”. Bull jumps up on the ropes like Breeze does to huge “yes” chants. »

5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night’s WWE Nxt (16 Sept)

17 September 2015 9:37 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The main event for the next edition of Nxt TakeOver has been set, and it’s an absolute doozy.

Bayley vs Sasha Banks.

A 30-minute Iron (Wo)Man match.

If that isn’t enough to get you pumped for October 7th, then we’re not friends, you and I, but more thoughts on that matchup later in the article.

Last night’s Nxt was a somewhat low-key episode, seemingly focused more on announcements than wrestling, building both the upcoming TakeOver special and next week’s show – hyping the debut of Asuka as well as the tag title rematch. However, the featured matches were all solid and the announcements were all stellar so, for an hour of programming, the quality remained at its usual Nxt high.

The card for TakeOver received further build in a rundown segment on the Dusty Rhodes classic, where it was revealed that the two semi-final matches, »

Last Man on Earth Season 2 Promo: Phil and Carol in the (White) House!

And you thought the specter of Donald Trump moving into The White House was frightening.

In the Season 2 premiere of Fox’s Last Man on Earth, Phil and Carol elect to make 1600 Pennsylvania Ave their new post-apocalyptic crash pad and, as this first promo reveals, they’re transforming the hallowed residence into… a makeshift hockey rink.

The above clip also spills some origin intel about Carol, and confirms that Phil’s confession of extreme like for his End of Days better half in last May’s finale was no lark »

WWE Nxt 19/08/15 Recap and Report – Takeover: Brooklyn go-home show, Bayley/Sasha Banks contract signing, Kevin Owens and Finn Balor face off and more

20 August 2015 1:13 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s squash match city on this go-home edition of Nxt. There’s also a contract signing for Bayley and Sasha Banks, while Kevin Owens and Finn Balor square off once again – it’s this week’s Nxt Report…

Show opens with a video package to highlight the Finn Balor/Kevin Owens championship and Bayley’s win over Becky Lynch to face Sasha Banks at Nxt Takeover. Pretty great stuff.

William Regal comes down to the ring for a contract signing for the Nxt Women’s Championship. He mentions that it’s in New York and the crowd once again boo him. This is hilarious. Regal introduces Bayley down to the ring who comes out in her gear. Sasha is out next. Bayley cuts a promo about finally winning the Nxt Women’s Title which some of the crowd boo – which is surprising. Sasha then cuts a promo on Bayley »

WWE Nxt Taping Results (Aug 13)

14 August 2015 5:49 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE Network

WWE taped three episodes of Nxt on Thursday night at Full Sail University in Orlando. The first episode will air next Wednesday as the final show before the August 22 Nxt Takeover Brooklyn event. The plan is to tape at least one week worth of content at that event as well.

The three episodes taped on Wednesday are presumably for August 19, August 26 and September 2. They could push one of them back and insert the Brooklyn taping into it. Here are the results.

First episode

* There was a contract signing between Sasha Banks and Bayley for the Nxt Women’s Title hosted by William Regal. Bayley said it’s her time while Banks said that Bayley isn’t worth her time. Sasha goes to leave, but Bayley went after her and they had a brawl.

* Tyler Breeze beat a jobber. After his win, Breeze put a Jushin Thunder Liger mask »

WWE Nxt 12/08/15 Recap and Review – Bailey vs. Becky Lynch, Baron Corbin and Samoa Joe square off, Finn Balor in action and more

13 August 2015 3:08 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Bailey and Becky Lynch fight for the #1 Contendership for the Nxt Women’s Championship, Finn Balor is in action, Baron Corbin gets a surprise challenge for Takeover: Brooklyn and more in this week’s Nxt Report…

We open on WWE.com exclusive with some unnamed dork interviewing William Regal about Kevin Owens’ challenge for a ladder match against Finn Balor. Regal says that he doesn’t want to give him the match because he won’t bow down to his demands, but he’s spoken with Finn Balor and Balor wants the match. Regal puts over how dangerous the match is, which is awesome and missing from the main roster. He makes the match official for Nxt Takeover: Brooklyn.

1. Solomon Crowe vs. Tye Dillinger

The commentators compare Solomon Crowe to a Gremlin, which was pretty funny. Dillinger is finally doing his Perfect 10 gimmick on TV, which the commentators explain pretty well. »

WWE Nxt 05.08.15 Recap and Review – Samoa Joe vs. Rhyno, Charlotte vs. Bailey, Bull Dempsey gets “Bullfit” and more

6 August 2015 3:10 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s the battle of the beomeths as Samoa Joe takes on Rhyno, Bailey continues her quest for the Nxt Women’s Championship and we have a new name for Uhaa Nation – it’s this week’s Nxt…

1. Charlotte vs. Bailey

After an opening graphic for Roddy Piper, we begin this week’s Nxt with Bailey’s quest for the Women’s Championship as she takes on Charlotte. There’s a really horrible Adr line about Charlotte “redefining” what it means to be a Diva. Match opens with some great action and chain wrestling before Bailey sends her to the outside and hits a dropkick through the ropes. Sadly it gets a little bit clunky when they get back into the ring as they both mis-time their spots. Things pick up again though when Bailey starts her comeback and she hits a sweet looking suplex. 5 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night’s WWE Nxt (July 29)

30 July 2015 9:00 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

With three, count ’em, three tag matches on last night’s card, the Nxt tag division took a minor victory lap last night, quietly demonstrating the power of distinct gimmicks, surprise booking and effective ringwork. Last night the division looked flush with talent, culminating in a tag title match that served as a star-making bout for The Vaudevillains.

Despite taping a month of shows on one night, Nxt have proven themselves supremely capable of subtly programming weekly television in order to give equal rotation to each of its championships. For three weeks in a row each episode has been main-evented by a different title; two weeks ago Sasha Banks and Charlotte closed the show in grand fashion with a instant-classic match for the Women’s Championship, last week the main event was a contract signing for the Nxt Championship, and this week the show went to black after »

4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night’s WWE Nxt (July 22)

23 July 2015 7:45 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Last night’s episode of Nxt was the first of a fresh slew of 4 pre-taped episodes, filmed on July 16th, set to provide us with shows all the way to TakeOver Brooklyn.

It couldn’t have come soon enough because, for the first time in 2 weeks, WWE’s Third Brand finally feels up to date. The previous month of episodes were all taped before Beast In The East, meaning that the dethroning of Kevin Owens went largely unaddressed on Nxt TV for a deeply frustrating fortnight. Well, no more. Balor is back, Owens is back, the Championship is back and Nxt feels complete once again, without a gaping void at the top of the card.

However, to Nxt’s credit, despite the Title match contract signing taking rightful centre-stage tonight, the brand have been diligent in the maintenance of its midcard and with TakeOver Brooklyn one month away to the day, »

4 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night’s WWE Nxt (July 1)

2 July 2015 10:09 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

It is mere days before Finn Balor and Kevin Owens lock up in Tokyo with the Nxt Championship on the line. Balor will be looking to avenge his previous loss at the hands of Owens back in February and the champ will be looking to gain a measure of vengeance over his loss last night.

The heat is palpable between the two men, encouraged in no small part by a series of stellar Balor-centric docu-shorts, the last of which aired during last night’s episode. With the go-home Nxt in the bag, it’s safe to say that the feud hasn’t quite reached the heights of Owens/Zayn, but it was never really given that opportunity. Owens is way too hot a commodity for the company right now, and they’re pulling him in a dozen different directions.

It was something of a lopsided show. The blockbuster »

Poster Debut For Canadian Supernatural Dark Comedy End Of Days Inc.

We are happy to debut the poster for the dark comedy, with a supernatural tinge, End of Days Inc., the feature debut for Canadian filmmaker Jennifer Liao. From the look on Paulino Nunes' face clearly he is someone you can trust. Clearly. I have also included the trailer as well, where there is no shortage of quirk and pugilism with the elderly. End Of Days, Inc. puts a supernatural spin on a workplace shutdown to darkly comic and chilling effect. It's the last day of business before Godfrey Global Inventory shuts down for good, and the enigmatic Mr. Godfrey (Nunes) and his officious sister Esther (Ferguson) invite the company's downtrodden staff- Jason (O'Brien), Janet (Maraghi), Mort (Lee), and Misty (Porter) -to a farewell party where they are to receive...

WWE Nxt 10/06/15 Report – Samoa Joe in-ring debut, Mojo Rowley returns and more

11 June 2015 4:11 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Samoa Joe makes his in-ring debut, Mojo Rowley returns (sadly) and there’s a load of squash matches – it’s this week’s Nxt…

1. Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley vs Mike Rollis and Elias Sampson

Nxt opens this week with a tag team match featuring the new duo of Zack Ryder and the returning Mojo Rowley. I was wondering why I’d been enjoying Nxt for these last few months, and then I realised it was because Mojo Rowley wasn’t on my TV screen. Sigh. So, he was hyped and did his usual spots. They were facing off against the jobber team of Mike Rollis and Elias Sampson. Can’t believe they have someone on the roster with the surname Rollis when your WWE World Heavyweight Champion is Rollins. Come on guys. Ryder at one point did the Broski Boot, so we can assume Joe won’t be using the Face Wash tonight. »

Bluray Review: Stigmata

22 May 2015 10:48 AM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Fans of religious horror can jump up and down (or..just pray??), with Scream Factory’s Bluray release of Rupert Wainwright’s 1999 thriller, Stigmata, a film that didn’t quite find its audience theatrically, but has since become something of a cult hit for genre lovers. How does the release hold up, compared to the titles we’ve come to love from Sf gang? Read on!

The Film:

Coming out in 1999, Stigmata is a perfect example of the decadence in style and music that was quite big at the time. Larger than life clothes, hairstyles, and a soundtrack that just Screams the ’90s.  Telling the story of Frankie (Patricia Arquette, A Nightmare On Elm St. 3, Lost Highway, Boyhood), a young and completely faithless hair stylist (aren’t they all?) who, after receiving the rosary from a deceased priest, begins to exhibit the stigmata. Her wrists bleed, she experiences visions, and »

Stallone and Schwarzenegger: how their action heroes differ

12 May 2015 1:55 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

What sets Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone's action heroes apart from one another?

There are spoilers within for Predator, Terminator 2, Cobra, the Rambo and Rocky films, and Big Momma's House 2 (just seeing if you're paying attention there).

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. At a certain point, you cannot think of one without the other. Action icons of the 80s, they are as synonymous with 80spop culture as the side ponytail, hair metal and New Coke. For action fans they are yin and yang, the flip sides of the same sweaty bicep. While they bear some superficial similarities, their star personas are actually quite different.

Stallone - The Underdog

Though he boasts a bulky physique comparable to the former Mr Universe, the essence of Stallone’s appeal is that he is inherently an underdog — this is why he is perfect for Rocky Balboa, and miscast in Cobra and Judge Dredd. »

Maggie, 2015.

Directed by Henry Hobson

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Abigail Breslin and Joely Richardson.

A teenage girl in the Midwest becomes infected by an outbreak of a disease that slowly turns the infected into cannibalistic zombies. During her transformation, her loving father stays by her side.

The world is in the midst of an apocalypse the media has dubbed “The Turn,” in which much of humanity has succumbed to a “necro-ambulant” condition … a scientific way of saying that people everywhere are turning into flesh-rotting zombies. Martial law is declared, countries are on lockdown, and if you’re bitten by one of the walking dead you’re closely watched by family members over the course of about two weeks, after which time you are either terminated by a loved one or interred into a mass holding pen, a filthy quarantine zone where zombies are free to munch on each other until they completely phase out. »
