Who Knew She Could Sing
17 March 2015 | by See all my reviews

It's opera night at the theater! It's a stand Terrytoons plot, but the gags are bigger and funnier than usual when the white cat is the soprano and Gandy Goose turns out to be a tenor.

This was the peak period of Terrytoons, and for a few of the best cartoons from Paul Terry's studio, the animation was stretchier than anything seen outside of Tex Avery's wolf leering at Red or anything by Bob Clampett. The white cat, last seen as a dancing girl in oriental gauze in SOMEWHERE IN Egypt gives quite a performance. Terry's musical director, Philip Scheib, could do any of the musical genres, but he seemed to be particularly fond of operetta, giving the audience quotes from William Tell, way over the top. It's a very funny cartoon.
