The house Jon Stewart's character lives in is the same house used for Tim Allens character in Galaxy Quest (1999) and Colin Firth's character in Where the Truth Lies (2005). It is known as ''Case Study House #22, aka Stahl House'' and is in the Hollywood Hills section of Los Angeles.

Ryan Phillippe didn't tell the film-makers that he was going to dye his hair blue. The first they knew of it was when he turned up on set on the day of filming with his hair a different color. Most of the cast and crew were taken aback but director Willard Carroll liked it. Coincidentally Angelina Jolie dyed her hair on exactly the same day.

Most of John Barry's score was replaced with a new score by composer Christopher Young. Barry's credit on the film was retained, however, and a CD was released with Barry's largely unused score.
