Interview: Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan of ‘The Babymakers’

1 August 2012 8:22 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The comedy troupe Broken Lizard conquered the film world with their first feature, “Super Troopers” in 2001. Over the next decade, they followed up with the popular “Club Dread” (2004) and “Beerfest” (2008). Broken Lizard performers Kevin Heffernan and Jay Chandrasekhar (who also directs) go domestic in the new film “The Babymakers.”

This latest release features Heffernan and Chandrasekhar in supporting roles, with Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn playing a couple trying to breed, but finding too many obstacles along the way. The solution? Break into a sperm bank where Schneider’s character made some deposits, and withdraw his specimen to save the day. Part heist film, part upper middle class fantasy, the Broken Lizard members add their own quirky sensibility to the mix of this high concept comedy.

The Babymakers Gets A Red Band Trailer

20 June 2012 3:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The Babymakers is the latest directorial outing for Jay Chandrasekhar and it’s just got itself a Red Band trailer. Most will know Chandrasekhar as being part of the comedy troupe Broken Lizard, the guys responsible for Puddle Cruiser (1996), Super Troopers (2001), Club Dread (2004), Beerfest (2006), and The Slammin’ Salmon (2009). All but the latter were directed by Chandrasekhar. He also has a very respectable number of TV shows under his belt, having done episodes of Chuck, Arrested Development, and Community.

The Babymakers sees Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn attempting to have a baby. After many unsuccessful attempts they discover that Schneider has slow sperm. He decides to rob a sperm bank to get back his own sperm which he donated years previously, when his sperm weren’t so slow.

The basic premise sounds good, with a heist movie not just focused on the money or the thrill of the crime. However I »

Watch: Olivia Munn in Broken Lizard's 'Babymakers' Official Trailer

1 June 2012 2:16 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Late last year a promo trailer surfaced for the new comedy from Broken Lizard called Babymakers from troupe member and director Jay Chandrasekhar, but the video was quickly taken down. Now the official trailer has arrived with Olivia Munn ("Perfect Couples")and Paul Schneider ("Parks & Recreation") playing Audrey and Tommy, a couple unable to conceive a child with Tommy shooting blanks in the bedroom. So obviously, the best plan of attack is to have Tommy's friends rob a sperm bank where he made a deposit years ago in order to make things right. Does hilarity ensue? See for yourself by watching below. Here's the first trailer for Jay Chandrasekhar Babymakers in HD from Apple: The Babymakers is directed by Broken Lizard filmmaker Jay Chandrasekhar, who directed the films Puddle Cruiser, Super Troopers, Club Dread, The Dukes of Hazzard and Beerfest previously. The screenplay was co-written by Peter Gaulke (of "SNL »
