Plot Summary

  • Romantic comedy set during the European football championships in 1996, where football fan Martin finds his life is going from bad to worse after losing his job and splitting up with his girlfriend. However, as the football tournament progresses his luck begins to turn, firstly because of England's successes on the pitch, and secondly because of his encounter with a mysterious woman.

  • Everything happens in threes! This is what Martin thinks as in a short space of time he loses his job, his prospects and his lovely girlfriend, Anna. However, there is always football and Euro-96 is about to start on TV presented by his hero. Then, suddenly, like a bolt from the blue the beautiful, enigmatic, football-mad Rosie appears in his life like an Angel sent from heaven to cure all his woes. Martin can't help falling in love with Rosie who seems too good to be true especially as he can't ask her questions to find out more about her! His Scottish friend Cameron and his girlfriend Barbara can't believe Martin's luck nor England's as their performance in the championship suddenly improves. However, England's winning streak can't last forever and so, it seems, neither can Martin's as Rosie disappears never to be seen again. All is not lost for the now forlorn Martin as he remembers something that Rosie told him just before she disappeared.

  • Martin arrives in France for World Cup 98. As he watches a waiter demonstrating his football skills, his mind drifts back to London, 1996, during Euro 96. A two week period that was to change his life forever as he loses his job, tries to repair his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, and lives through the agony and ecstasy of England's campaign in the company of a beautiful but mysterious woman called Rosie.
