‘Child’s Play’ Creator Teases Return of Glen/Glenda: “Expect the Unexpected”

‘Child’s Play’ Creator Teases Return of Glen/Glenda: “Expect the Unexpected”
One of the biggest omissions from the newly released Cult of Chucky is that of Glen/Glenda, the “seed” of Chucky who was birthed by Tiffany in the final moments of Bride of Chucky. The character, one that many fans have yet to embrace, juxtaposes beautifully as he’s as equally sweet as she’s a vicious psychopath. Child’s […]

Jennifer Tilly is the Cate Blanchett of Cult of Chucky

When Jennifer Tilly starred in Bride of Chucky, she gave the killer doll a partner in crime. Tilly played Tiffany Valentine, the girlfriend of Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) before he placed his soul in a child’s doll. 19 years and three movies later, Tilly is still playing Tiffany in Cult of Chucky. “I did not expect to be in every Chucky movie ‘til the end of time,” Tilly laughed. What a role it’s been for Tiffany. In Seed of Chucky, Tilly played herself as Tiffany the doll tried to possess her. She showed up for a credits scene in...read more

Interview: Don Mancini Talks Cult Of Chucky and the Enduring Controversy of Seed Of Chucky

  • DailyDead
It’s been amazing to watch Don Mancini shepherd the entire Child’s Play franchise for nearly 30 years now, successfully navigating these films through various eras in modern horror, all while keeping the spirit of everyone’s favorite possessed killer doll Chucky very much alive and kicking.

This week, Cult of Chucky made its debut on various formats and platforms—Blu-ray, DVD, VOD, and the rated version is also now available on Netflix—which meant it was the perfect time to post our interview with Mancini here on Daily Dead. Here’s the catch though: what follows ended up being a very spoiler-filled interview at times, just because there’s so much that I’ve long enjoyed about this franchise, and wanted to dig into a lot of different topics with Chucky’s creator while I had the opportunity.

So, if you haven’t had the chance to see Cult of Chucky just yet,

‘Cult of Chucky’ Director Don Mancini on Making a “Mindf*ck” Chucky Movie

  • Collider.com
The Chucky films are one of the wildest and endlessly entertaining horror franchises in Hollywood history. It all started with Child's Play, a relatively stripped-down, cheeky horror thriller about a serial killer-possessed doll, voiced to foul-mouthed perfection by Brad Dourif. But in the decades since, the little ginger-tufted killer doll has carved his way through as many tonal shifts as unwitting victims, including the slapstick silliness of Bride of Chucky and a return to straight-up horror in Curse of Chucky. With Cult of Chucky, creator Don Mancini, who has scripted every single Chucky film …

Cult Of Chucky Review

Don Mancini’s Cult Of Chucky is an anomaly; Hollywood’s smallest horror icon “jumps the proverbial shark” but instead pulls off a daring scripted stunt that sticks its revitalized landing. We’ve come a long way since 1988 – Andy Barclay fighting his Good Guy nemesis – far enough to introduce a bride, child and now congregation into Chucky’s life. Mancini plays as wacky-and-loose as he wants with plot – it doesn’t get less believable than a murderous children’s toy possessed through a voodoo curse. So why not evolve mythology and upgrade Charles Lee Ray’s murderous capabilities? In keeping with the tradition of a forward-thinking franchise focused on reinvention, Chucky’s latest playdate strives for vigorous kills, legacy unquestioned and a logical blend of 80s-meets-modern-classics slasher intuition.

I’ve screamed it before and I’ll pontificate again – Child’s Play is the strongest horror franchise still running, ever created,

Good Guys Finish First: Don Mancini’S Durably Deranged Killer Doll Returns In Cult Of Chucky

Let’s talk memorable movie killers for a second. Since Mrs. Bates first slashed her way through the shower curtain in Room 1 of that roadside motel in Psycho (1960), franchise-minded murderers have had a hard time of it in the consistency department, regardless of how strong they may have lunged out of the gate. Established classics of the genre, like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street have all given birth to an array of sequels, remakes and reboots that may have extended their nasty protagonists’ shelf life, but none could approach their origins in terms of frights or filmmaking quality.

The exception to this rule of inconsistency and ever-diminishing returns in serial killer movie franchises seems to be the maniac who may have been the most unlikely to succeed, or certainly to endure, to begin with. He would be Charles Lee Ray (played with customary intensity

Jeepers Creepers 3 World Premiere Scrapped Due To Threats Of Protesting

Just when you thought Jeepers Creepers 3 had turned a corner and put its storied production woes in the rear-view mirror, Victor Salva’s horror threequel is hit with another setback. And this time, it’s a big one.

The Tcl Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles has scrapped plans to host the world premiere of Jeepers Creepers 3 due to threats of protesting. Initially, the theater chain had earmarked September 13th for a back-to-back screening of the original Jeepers Creepers movie, its long-anticipated threequel, along with a Q&A session with the cast and crew – most notably franchise creator and director, Victor Salva. And therein lies the source of controversy.

To cut a long story short, the filmmaker was accused of sexual misconduct with a minor almost two decades ago, and served 15 months in state prison. During that time, many feared (hoped?) The Creeper would never fly again under Salva’s supervision,

Jeepers Creepers 3 Premiere Canceled Over Protest Threats
Jeepers Creepers 3 has been a long time coming and the movie is finally ready to wow audiences with its thrills and dubious scares. After years of trying to get the sequel off the ground, director Victor Salva has finished the third installment of his horror franchise and the premiere was scheduled to take place in just a couple of weeks. But the director's past crimes have caused a lot of controversy and the threat of protest has caused the cancelation of the Jeepers Creepers 3 premiere event.

The event was scheduled for September 13 at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles and had sold out in a matter of days. Jeepers Creepers and Jeepers Creepers 3 were to be screened back-to-back with cast members from all three entries in the series in attendance for the event. However, following threat of protest, the management at Tcl felt it was best to cancel the

Frightfest 2017: Cult of Chucky Review: Dir. Don Mancini (2017)

Cult of Chucky review: The possessed Good Guy doll, Chucky, is back to terrorise audiences with the seventh film in the horror franchise.

Cult of Chucky review, Kat Hughes at Frightfest 2017.

Cult of Chucky review

It was almost thirty years ago that cinema audiences were first introduced to Charles Lee Ray, better known as Chucky. Since then, the tale of the possessed Good Guy doll has unfolded over three decades and six films; now it’s time for lucky number seven – Cult of Chucky.

Tonally the films have shifted over the years. The first three films were your typical late eighties / early nineties video nasties. They were creepy as Hell and were the cause of many bouts of Pediophobia (that’s fear of dolls). The trio of terror followed youngster Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) as he tried to keep his body, and soul, away from the voodoo practising Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif). Then,

Horror Channel FrightFest Review – Cult of Chucky (2017)

Cult of Chucky, 2017

Written and directed by Don Mancini

Starring Fiona Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Brad Dourif, Alex Vincent, Elisabeth Rosen, Michael Therriault, Zak Santiago, Grace Lynn Kung

Synopsis:

Chucky returns to terrorize his human victim, Nica. Meanwhile, the killer doll has some scores to settle with his old enemies, with the help of his former wife.

Sorry Jack – Chucky’s back… again.

The serial killer doll Chucky – who has been terrorising people since 1988 – was given a new lease on life following 2013’s fantastic Curse of Chucky. It was a movie that took Chucky back to his darker roots following the campy Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, and was well-received by fans and critics. Original creator Don Mancini – who wrote and directed Curse of Chucky – is back again with Cult of Chucky, the seventh entry in this long running franchise. But has he found the same success twice?
