Out in the west, Pete tries to rob a bank. However, Oswald swallows the bag of loot in this decent but unexceptional Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon from Walter Lantz.
Director William Nolan paces the gags pretty fast here, aided by the usual highly competent animators. However, while a couple of years earlier, Lantz' staff was arguably the top cartoon factory in the business, by now they seemed uninspired. They run through the standard gags in an amusing but unsurprising fashion. Perhaps this was due to a change in focus; the redesigned Oswald was much more childlike, and the cartoon seems much more aimed at small children than they had been. The gags are still good, but they don't seem to stretch the form.
