Sex & Nudity

Rated R for some violence and sexuality, including some nudity.

A woman is shown wearing suggestive clothing--she then lifts her skirt to show her underwear and we see bare outer thigh and some of her buttock. She rubs the man's crotch suggestively. Later, we see her undress from behind, showing her entire bare back and butt.

The artwork in the Ninth Gate book is woodcuts, several of which include depictions of topless women, but as woodcuts the level of realism is low.

A woman and man have sex on the grass while a nearby old castle is burning ; The girl is riding the man in cowgirl position. Outline of her buttocks is visible. Later her small breasts and nipples are visible. She grinds hard against the man and later the man is shown to experience an explosive orgasm.

Violence & Gore

We see minimal details of a man hanging himself at the beginning of the movie. A man is killed and hung from a wall--minimal shown again. A man shown who was drowned in a pool. A woman who was strangled is shown, more graphic than other dead bodies. A woman is choked to death and a man burns alive, shown screaming and writhing and is then shot with a gun.

Profanity

Some minimal profanity throughout.

One Fuck-word, a few shits, and few other milder phrases.

A character smokes tobacco and drinks alcoholic beverages regularly.

The movie involves the attempt to incarnate the prince of darkness. There is considerable tension throughout.

The film has a number of disturbing scenes. The majority of these scenes take place in the last 20-25 minutes of the film. It is a horror thriller after all. The little ones should be tucked and away when you watch this.
