Pooch the Pup and his girlfriend are celebrating a quiet Christmas Eve by reading "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" while the cat is fighting it out with the mice. Meanwhile the hungry wolf has mugged Santa Claus for his costume and invaded the couple's home. Fortunately all the toys come to life to defend Pooch in this insanely funny high-speed mashup of what seems like every cartoon trope in the book.
Walt Disney was eating every cartoon factory's lunch at this point. Some, like Mintz and Schlesinger, floundered. Terry pulled in his horns and concentrated on coming in under budget. Iwerks and Harman-Ising tried to do what Disney did, but Walter Lantz decided to go off in another direction. He tried a new character, Pooch the Pup and made kitchen sink cartoons, throwing everything against the wall. Unfortunately, not much stuck and Pooch didn't last long, but here, the over-the-top approach to every aspect of cartooning works brilliantly. Don't miss a chance to see this one.
