Bribing Father Time
boblipton from New York City
20 October 2013
Felix the Cat can't find anything to eat, so he bribes Father Time to
send him back to when life was easier. However, the Stone Age turns out
to have its own problems.
Felix the Cat was the most popular of silent movie cartoon series and
it deserved to be. With its wacky but consistent logic, Felix' scrappy
personality and the constant surprise of how one thing becomes another,
it's a consistent delight for the audience. Notice how director Otto
Messmer plays with objects here, so that a tree becomes an elephant's
trunk or a splash of water an umbrella and how Felix deals with matters
as we might: not too successfully, but gamely.
