Wow. It's the start of the "X Factor" finale. It seems like only 20 or 30 years ago that we started hearing all of the hype about "X Factor" traveling across the Atlantic and like only three or four years ago that Fox premiered the first audition episodes and now it's down to three. Tomorrow night, Fox and Simon Cowell are going to give a $5 million recording contract to one of three artists who haven't a chance on God's Green Earth of justifying a deal that big based on any empirical standards. Nobody in their right mind would suggest that »

The first thing to say about the two-part, 3-hour-and-15-minute American Masters special Woody Allen: A Documentary, which airs tonight and tomorrow on PBS, is that it mixes things you already know with things you didn’t know in an avidly enjoyable, Woody-nostalgia way. Here’s something, for instance, that I didn’t know: Allen still does all his writing on the same tiny typewriter he has owned since he was 16 — a German-made Olympia portable that he purchased for $40 in 1952. He’s written all his movies on it, all his plays, and all his New Yorker pieces. The typewriter is missing its top, »

The La Weekly's Karina Longworth has turned a lunch with Elvis Mitchell, a lot of research and several phone calls into today's must-read. "One of the best known, and definitely most controversial, living film critics in America, Mitchell is both irresistibly charming and legendarily incapable of playing by the rules, or perhaps simply oblivious to them." And now: "He's been brought to Lacma as the embodiment of a major break from business as usual at the museum's film department." In one of the best pieces of film-related reporting I've seen in a long while, Karina outlines two histories, first, that of Lacma's evolution from "one of the city's premier destinations for cinephiles" to an institution with a "strategy to plumb the film industry for patrons," and second, that of the "former New York Times film critic who lunches at swank restaurants with movie stars and drives off in a cherry-red convertible. »

Fox Astro performs on ‘The X-Factor.’
Another week, another round of performances from the contestants on “The X-Factor,” who are required to perform songs from movies, evidently in honor of Adam Sandler’s latest, “Jack and Jill.” Host Steve Jones continued to struggle to convey he has a personality as he introduced judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and L.A. Reid, who emerged from backstage to the magisterial sounds of the “Star Wars” theme.

Executive Vice President of Original Programming at FX, Nick Grad, made the announcement in a press release today where he explained the show’s creator, Kurt Sutter, had asked for one more episode: “Creatively, this has been Sons’ best and biggest season ever,” said Grad. “Kurt asked us to consider adding an extra episode to fully close this current chapter of the Sons saga. How do you solve a crime when nothing is left to find?
Tomorrow night, the NCIS special agents must answer that as they uncover a discrepancy with DNA remains following the tragic crash of a military plane that had been transporting caskets.
On last week's episode, Diane alluded to Gibbs' first wife when she said Leroy was "her Shannon." It looks like this case will also bring back memories of the daughter Gibbs lost along with her.

On Thursday (Oct. 27), the classic Halloween animated special "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" ran on ABC, as it has for decades. It even attracted a decent audience, considering it ran opposite the World Series -- 7.4 million viewers, beating NBC's "Community" and "Parks and Recreation" competition.
But perhaps the best thing to come out of the annual airing is Friday's trending Twitter hashtag, #RejectedPeanutsSpecials, in which the massive brain trust that is the tweeting public turns its collective attention to snarking at pop culture.
We've chosen some of our favorites from the thousands of suggestions.

Tomorrow night at 8, NBC premieres the fifth and final season of "Chuck." Think for a minute about how ridiculous that is - or, if you're a fan of the show (which I've been from the start), how awesome that is. This is a show that debuted during the cursed 2007-08 season that was truncated because of the writers strike, a season that was notable (a year after the "Heroes" freshman phenomenon) for both the sheer number of nerd baiting shows that debuted and the number that failed. ("Chuck" and "Big Bang Theory" survived, while "Bionic Woman," "Journeyman," "Moonlight," "Terminator: The »

London, Oct 14: 'Us X Factor' judge Paula Abdul took to Twitter to inform fans that the show was called off because of a baseball game.
The postponement was due to rain at Game 4 of American League Championship series between the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers, which hampered the game earlier, the Daily Mail reported.
"Baseball really is America's favorite pasttime! lol! Game 4 rain delay, no XFactor tonight. back Tomorrow night 8/7c on @FOXBroadcasting," she tweeted.

X Factor judge Paula Abdul has advised contestants to record their experiences in the music industry. The singer and choreographer, who will mentor the groups on this year's show, told Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday that artists should keep a record of their first-ever experiences, such as when they hear their track on the radio. Abdul said: "I think the best advice I could give them is to honestly really absorb the stuff. Write down and document your firsts, put them down in your diary, video record it, put it in your digital recorder. "[For example], make sure you record the first time you hear your song on the radio." Abdul then told Kimmel that she still remembers the first time she heard her first song on the radio, recounting that she had been driving on Sunset Boulevard with her sister.
