Oh dear oh dear oh dear. A film that really tries the patience
8 October 2008 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Some films are bad but good, or bad but weird enough to work in a gonzo way, and then there are films like Legacy Of Satan. Directed by the legendary Gerard Damiano one might expect a fun slice of nudity laden seventies satanism tosh, but this really fails to deliver. Its essential problem is that remarkably little happens and it drastically lacks the kind of sleaze or gore that might make it interesting in the lack of a good plot or any intrigue. Its about a couple who get ensnared by a weird cult who worship an entity called Rakeesh and in its less than 70 minute runtime has about a half hour to forty minutes worth of actual material. The lack of any nudity kills the chances of eroticism and the whole thing moves incredibly slowly, with lame dialogue and a decided lack of action. Pretty much the most watchable things were the clothing, furnishings and hair which were all in a classic, opulent seventies style but when the interesting events of a film can be counted on one hand, even great seventies style can't help out. The direction was pretty nifty, with some nice colours and shots, and the insistent, likable if maddening synthesizer score from Arlon Ober and Mel Zelniker combined with the direction to provide another bare thread of watchability to keep me from just turning this one off, but ultimately I don't feel like it was worth it. One to avoid in my opinion.
