Cordelia Gray is the reluctant owner of a ramshackle investigation agency following the suicide of her boss. Watching over her as she hunts down clues in the murky and sinister world of crime, is her straight-laced and intuitive office assistant Edith Sparshott. Written by

The trick was to make a gutsy but inexperienced and introspective character come alive -- and from the opening screens to the end Helen Baxendale did the job. There are lots of scenes of Cordelia thinking and worrying her way through the problem she is investigating. This could have dragged, but the tension is well maintained; this should please lovers of classic British detection.
