Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way are developing a new Twilight Zone movie, hiring Rand Ravich to write a screenplay based on the classic TV series, combining fantasy, science-fiction and horror elements. Ravich previously directed the feature The Astronaut's Wife and executive produced Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Created by writer Rod Serling, the original Twilight Zone series ran for five seasons debuting in 1959 on CBS, with Serling writing more than half of 156 episodes. The production was also notorious for causing the deaths of actor Vic "Combat" Morrow and 2 minors working illegally during a night shoot... Leonardo DiCaprio and Warner Bros have hired screenwriter Rand Ravich for their proposed new Twilight Zone movie based on the iconic TV series.

Ravich created NBC detective series Life; wrote and directed the 1999 sci-fi thriller The Astronaut's Wife starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron; and executive-produced Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

DiCaprio's Appian Way production company set up the project at Warner Bros a year ago, says Variety. No director or cast have yet been announced.

The original Twilight Zone series was created by Rod Serling and ran for five seasons - a total of 156 episodes - starting in 1959.

It was adapted for the big screen into Twilight Zone: The Movie in 1983, a four-part anthology comprising remakes of three classic episodes and one orignal story. John Landis, Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante and George Miller each directed a segment.

Rand Ravich Will Write the New 'Twilight Zone'

20 July 2009 3:45 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

You might have caught the news last year in one of our quick write-ups -- Warner Brothers and Leonardo DiCaprio's production company had grabbed Twilight Zone to stretch into a feature-length movie. It's taken a year, but they've finally got a writer on-board. Variety reports that Rand Ravich, the pen behind The Astronaut's Wife and NBC's Life, will write a script for the adaptation. This won't be an episodic tale, like Twilight Zone: The Movie was all those years ago. How it will turn out, however, is anyone's guess.

The show certainly covered enough themes that this could make for a wonderful film if it's done well. Fantasy, horror, science fiction... It's got all the tropes that put the bodies in the seats. Trying to steer clear of the '80s film, however, I would imagine that this would be a fresh story, and not simply the remake of episodes. »

Writer steps into Leonardo's Twilight Zone

20 July 2009 10:43 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

Screenwriter Rand Ravich has been hired to write a new Twilight Zone movie for Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company.

Ravich is the creator behind the NBC drama series Life as well as the screenwriter of The Astronaut's Wife starring Charlize Theon and Johnny Depp and 1995's Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh. The hiring of Rand is the first major new development since Appian Way started to work on a new Twilight Zone movie one year ago. It's not yet known what Ravich has in mind for the new Zone's story, if it will be a collection of multiple stories or a single storyline that spans the film.

DiCaprio's Twilight Zone is the second time that a feature film has been made from Rod Serling's classic television series from the 1950s-60s. The first Twilight Zone movie came out in 1983 and featured four segments directed by John Landis »

DiCaprio’s Company Moves Forward With New Twilight Zone Movie

20 July 2009 10:23 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The original five-season show The Twilight Zone ('59-'64) has been reborn in multiple incarnations: two additional television series, in 1985 and 2002, multiple book anthologies and comic books, and a disastrous movie released in 1983. (Not to mention a pretty amazing pinball machine, which is where the article's image originated.) Now, according to Variety, Leonardo DiCaprio's company Appian Way is moving forward with a new Twilight Zone film, and has just hired a writer: Rand Ravich, writer/director of The Astronaut's Wife, producer of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. What shape will his version of the series take? The original series, created, hosted and often written by Rod Serling, featured a mixture of original screenplays and stories adapted from authors like Richard Matheson, who also wrote many of the show's scripts. Remakes of episodes from the original series have dominated the brand since. The two televised revivals featured both new stories »

Leonardo DiCaprio Enters Into ‘The Twilight Zone’

20 July 2009 9:31 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

My guess is John Landis won't be allowed within one hundred yards of the set... Variety is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio has partnered his production company, Appian Way, with Warner Bros. on a new Twilight Zone feature film.  They've hired Rand Ravich (The Astronaut's Wife) to write the screenplay.  And that's all the info currently available... As is often the case the unanswered questions are the always the most interesting.  Will DiCaprio serve as host in the new film?  Driving into a scene in his little Ev electric car to introduce each segment?  And about the segments... will they be updated versions of known episodes similar to what they did with the 1983 feature film or will they be entirely new stories?  Will Vic Morrow reprise his role as a racist in need of a haircut?  The film currently has no production date so it may be a while before we find out. Variety reports that DiCaprio is working with Warner Bros. to create a big-screen adaptation of the classic TV series The Twilight Zone. Debuting in 1959, the original Twilight Zone series ran or five seasons and enthralled viewers with spooky tales of alternate realities. Leonardo DiCaprio, Warner Bros. Team Up for "Twilight Zone" Movie

Leonardo DiCaprio's studio, Appian Way, and Warner Bros. are teaming up to make another big screen adaptation of "Twilight Zone." They hired Rand Ravich to write the script based on the iconic TV series.

Ravich is best known for directing "The Astronaut's Wife" and executive producing "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind." He's also the brains behind NBC's detective show "Life."

The last time "Twilight Zone" was turned into a movie by WB was 1983's "Twilight Zone: The Movie." Steven Spielberg and John Landis produced and directed segments of the film, but my favorite was the one with John Lithgow, the airplane episode. William Shatner played the character in the original TV episode called "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet." To this day, I look and peek out the airplane window to see if there's a demonic creature playing with the wing of the plane :happy

Leonardo DiCaprio Taking Warner Bros To 'The Twilight Zone'

20 July 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

It's been a little over a month since the last Leonardo DiCaprio story, so the busy star must take a summer vacation between projects. Or perhaps director Christopher Nolan is just keeping him really busy working next to Marion Cotilliard? Whatever he's been doing, DiCaprio is fresh and ready to take a journey into "The Twilight Zone."

Variety submits for your approval that DiCaprio and his Appian Way production company will team with Warner Bros. to bring "The Twilight Zone" back to the big screen. They dusted off the property last year, but are taking the first steps of pre-production by hiring screenwriter Rand Ravich ("The Astronaut's Wife") to pen a script. DiCaprio is in good company in revisiting Rod Serling, as Steven Spielberg and John Landis ("An American Werewolf in London") produced the 1983 movie, and both directed segments for the creepy, four-part feature.

Warner Bros. Readies Another 'Twilight Zone' Feature

20 July 2009 2:50 AM, PDT | ESplatter.com | See recent ESplatter news »

You can file this under "remakes," as "Twilight Zone" wasn't just a TV series, but also a less-than-satisfactory theatrical film from Steven Spielberg back in the '80s. It also wasn't technically horror. Rod Serling's "Night Gallery" veered much more into that territory. However, any attempt at redoing Serling's work is worthy of our attention. Variety reports taht Rand Ravich, who wrote and directed "The Astronaut's Wife," is writing the script for this one, which has yet to have a director. The film is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio's production company, so maybe Leo will play a role. Although it sounds like an intriguing project, why not go ahead and do something original? Make a film inspired by the Twilight Zone, but call it something else? The reason is pretty simple: branding. »

Leonardo DiCaprio Taking Us to The Twilight Zone

20 July 2009 1:25 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

We are about to re-enter another dimension. A dimension of familiar sights, sounds, and minds. There's a sign post up ahead. Next stop -- the remake zone!

Variety reports that Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way are moving ahead on a "Twilight Zone" movie, hiring Rand Ravich to pen a script based on the iconic TV series, which melded fantasy, science-fiction, and horror elements.

Genre audiences last heard from Ravich when he directed The Astronaut's Wife, which felt like an extended episode of the iconic show to begin with. It'll be interesting to see what he brings to the table with this redux and who -- if more than one person -- will be taking the director's helm on different segments and which stories they will choose for that matter. My vote -- a little episode from Season 5 - "Mr. Garrity and the Graves"! Spooky stuff!

Look for more on this one soon. »

DiCaprio heads for The Twilight Zone

Leonardo DiCaprio heads to Shutter Island under the guidance of Martin Scorsese this fall, and soon he'll be heading to another dimension - one not only of sight and sound, but of mind.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. is gearing up for it's second big-screen trip to The Twilight Zone.

The studio that produced the 1983 Twilight Zone (pictured on the cover of Fangoria #30) film that featured segments by Joe Dante (Gremlins), John Landis (An American Werewolf In London), George Miller (Mad Max), and Stephen Spielberg (Jaws), will be bringing another vision of the Rod Serling-created series into theaters from a screenplay by Rand Ravich.

Ravich first hit the genre radar after penning the screenplay to Candyman: Farewell To The Flesh. He's since written The Astronaut's Wife, produced Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, and created the NBC series Life.

No director has been attached to the project just yet, but »
