Despite the critical and commercial failures of several classic films and Hollywood icons in the game space, the video game industry is bringing a wave of old movies back to life. In the fall, Vivendi Universal Games will ship Fight Club and Predator, and next fall it will bring Scarface to the game world. Electronic Arts is bringing another classic gangster film, The Godfather, to gaming and is also dipping into the James Bond universe of villains with this fall's GoldenEye: Rogue Agent. »

Leto 'Awake' for indie operation

Jared Leto will star in Awake, an independent feature written and directed by Joby Harold. GreeneStreet Films is producing. In Awake, Leto will play Clay, a scion of a huge family fortune who needs a heart transplant. During the operation, he becomes aware of a conspiracy involving the entire surgical team in order to get his money, and he must outthink and outmaneuver them in order to survive. Awake begins shooting in November in New York. GreeneStreet is the company behind In the Bedroom, and Pinero. Leto is filming Lord of War opposite Nicolas Cage for director Andrew Niccol. In November, he will appear as historical figure Hephaestion in Oliver Stone's Alexander. Other credits include Panic Room, Requiem for a Dream and Fight Club. He is repped by CAA and the Firm. »

Jennifer Aniston's fears husband Brad Pitt was attracted to Ocean's Twelve love interest Catherine Zeta-Jones have proved unfounded - they've reportedly got no on-screen chemistry. The Fight Club hunk reprises his role as sexy conman Rusty Ryan in the George Clooney-starring thriller, and the Chicago Oscar-winner is his sweetheart Isabel Lahiri. But movie bosses have been left scratching their heads after seeing their scenes together, which allegedly fail to set the screen alight. And producers are particularly confused as the duo have become firm friends off- camera. A source explains, "They work well together but there's definitely no spark. Producers are trying to work out ways of injecting a bit of sizzle into their scenes." »

Warners sews up deal for 'Button'

Warner Bros. Pictures has boarded Paramount Pictures' long-gestating adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Benjamin Button. Warners will co-finance and co-produce the feature, with Paramount handling domestic and Warners taking on international rights to the film. David Fincher has a three-month holding deal to direct the project. But several producers around town are holding their breath to see which project Fincher actually directs next. The Fight Club helmer has been associated with a variety of projects, including Phoenix Pictures' film about the so-called Zodiac Killer, DreamWorks' The Lookout and the remake of The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. Eric Roth wrote the most recent draft of Benjamin Button with previous writers including Robin Swicord. The Button project has been in development for some time and has attracted the interest of several directors over the years, including Gary Ross, Spike Jonze, Ron Howard and Phil Alden Robinson. Benjamin Button follows an old man who starts aging backward. When he hits 50, he falls in love with a 30-year-old and must come to terms with the situation. »

Movie superstar Brad Pitt experienced such severe cravings when he quit smoking recently he was "ready to kill". The Fight Club actor, 40, was forced to ditch the unhealthy habit during training for upcoming Greek epic Troy, and says he struggled to cope without nicotine. But Pitt - who is married to Friends beauty Jennifer Aniston - says the fitness regime he was forced to keep up during the grueling shoot was a deeply miserable experience. He explains, "I had to quit smoking. I'm now happy about it because these things were killing me. But at first I was really missing my cigarettes. The withdrawal was so hard that I was ready to kill - which was actually helpful for the role I was playing. Against my nature, I had to invest a lot of time and sweat on the physical aspect of my work. I didn't like that at all. The trainer warned me that every day would be unpleasant. He was right." »

A nasty flu bug has swept through the set of upcoming Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie movie Mr. And Mrs. Smith - leading filming to be halted several times. The romantic thriller is currently in production in New York, but both the Fight Club star and his Oscar-winning co-star have been struck down repeatedly by the virus. According to set insiders, the problem keeps occurring thanks to the number of love scenes between the superstars in the Doug Liman-directed movie. One source tells American website Page Six, "They keep giving each other a nasty flu-like bug. And it's been running rampant all over the set." »

And - in an effort to put her at ease - the assembled press were asked not to attempt to speak to the Fight Club beauty as she was too upset to make conversation.
