During the war,the American side had the U.S.O. show.Bob hope was the m.c most of the time.Bing Crosby was also involved in it .so was Fred Astair. You had singer like Frances Langford. You also had Glen Miller and his orchestra too and other big bands touring for the soldier boys. But in Nazi Germany you had the same thing for the Nazi boys.It was called Front Theater, instead of the N.G.O., Nazi German Organization. This film is a variation of Wunzconzert.Heli Finkenzeller was the star of this film. She plays an actress name Lena. Her husband is a doctor,Paul Meinhardt. He has to serve Hitlers war machine leaving her behind. She works as a stage actress, but theater group are going to tour the front to entertain the Nazi boys. She's not too sure in the beginning, but, she decides to be a part of the troupe and may be she will be able to see her husband on the way.Heinz Ruhmann plays a small guest star part,in a hotel in Nazi Occupied France.Part of the troupe,You got The Hopfner twins ,Hedi and Margot, who showed up in the 1935 Austrian film Kirschen in Nachbars Garten, they Perform for the Kriegsmarine Nazi boys with a jazzy tap dancing number, a Nazi no no, at the time. Then there's Bruni Lobel ,plays Gerda, who was in Quax in Africa, another Performer. She's in love with actor Walter, played by Rudolph Schundler. He haves the hots for Heli. Then there's the stage director LangHammer, played by Lothar Firmans,They are touring all over the war front with some play that take place during the colonial times. You see the propaganda war scenes where the Nazi boys are all knocking down ,from the air, all the good guys. You have your hail Hitlers slogans and your Zieg hail salutes,in the film. This is direct nationalistic propaganda.Rene is home on furlough, thinking that she's going to show up,but she too busy doing the play.By the time she gotten home he's left,By surprise at on of the shows in Rome, they finally reunite. Some of this film was shot in occupied France.historically interesting, but it was still the bad guys.Print is in dire need of restoring,Available at Germanwarfilm.com 01/19/12
