This film's closing epilogue states: "After nearly three months of heavy combat, the Allies took the Hurtgen Forest. More than 24,000 soldiers were killed and wounded in the battle. The Battle of the Bulge began only a few days later, leaving the campaign in the Hurtgen Forest largely forgotten today."

The phrase "Nobody Dies" is a reference to the book and film "A Walk in the Sun (1945)", where "Nobody Dies" is the platoon motto. Both book and film deal with similar effects of war as "When Trumpets Fade".

The red keystone unit patch signifies that Manning and the others are part of the The 28th Infantry Division. The 28th is a unit of the Army National Guard and is the oldest division-sized unit in the armed forces of the United States.
