Clothes Don't Make the Wife
10 January 2016 | by (New York City) – See all my reviews

Maurice Costello, tired of being pursued by woman for his wealth, goes on a fishing trip, where he is mugged for his clothes by an escaped prisoner. He stumbles into Clara Kimball Young's home. They fall in love and marry.

It's a decent but not terribly exciting vehicle for Mr. Costello. He was one of Vitagraph's biggest stars: so big that he wouldn't help out in set construction. Apparently this attitude hurt his connections, because by 1939, he sued his three daughters for support.

This one turned up in a good print on Harpodeon.com, a fine site to see old and obscure movies.
