When Tim Moore became a hit as George "Kingfish" Stevens in the television series The Amos 'n Andy Show (1951), this film was re-released with the new tagline "'Kingfish' of Comedy. Queen of the Show."
Although he had minor roles in several films in the 1930s, this was the only starring role in a feature film for Tim Moore.
Gene Krupa, the only white member of the cast, and who receives a "guest star" credit, was invited to appear in the film by the director when he visited the set to meet with Sidney Catlett.
The press book for this film asserted that this was to be the first of twelve pictures to be produced by Herald Pictures. Also, that "the production cost of the picture is at least four times that (has been) spent on any all-Negro feature to date."
