According to a Film Quarterly article, the inspiration for this story came partly from the Leo Frank trial in Atlanta, Georgia, when the Jewish factory superintendent Frank was found guilty of, and lynched for, the murder of a white, teenage, female employee.
Apparently, this film is lost.
The film gets its title from a character named Myrtle Gonsaulus, apparently no reference intended to silent film actress Myrtle Gonzalez.
Filmed in 1921 but not officially released until 1923.
This actually is not a new film. It consists of footage and outtakes from Oscar Micheaux's Within Our Gates (1920), edited together and released the next year as a separate film.
