Today, Robert Pattinson ("Edward Cullen") stepped out in Berlin, Germany to promote the premiere of Bel Ami at the Berlin Film Festival. He joined co-stars Christina Ricci and Holliday Grainger (with whom - fun fact - he also starred in The Bad Mother's Handbook so many years ago) for a photocall and press conference in support of the film's international release, which begins March 2nd. In Bel Ami - which is based on the Guy de Maupassant novel of the same name - Pattinson portrays "Georges DuRoy," a man in nineteenth century Paris who uses his sexuality with important women to climb the social ladder. The film was shot in Budapest, Hungary last summer, just after Pattinson had completed filming for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 and worldwide promotions for Water For Elephants »

Robert Pattinson appeared at the Berlin International Film Festival on Friday (February 17) to promote his latest effort, the big-screen adaptation of the Guy de Maupassant novel "Bel Ami." During the press conference, the actor opened up about making the film, which follows a manipulative young man who romances various women in 19th-century Paris.
"To work as a journalist? It's funny. I kind of like the idea, especially when he gets into the gossip section of the newspaper," the actor said about his character's job in the flick and how he related it to his own headline-making life.
"Something that was written in ... 1885, for it »
"Bel Ami" is a close adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's classic tale of one man's meteoric rise on the Parisian social ladder, a climb he makes by exploiting the society's most important women. Robert Pattinson is the central character; the women are Christina Ricci (Clotilde de Marelle), Uma Thurman (Madeleine Forestier), Kristin Scott Thomas (Virginie Walters) and Holliday Grainger (Suzanne Rousset). The conversation at the Berlin Film Festival press conference centered on the film's star, a virgin to the film festival world whose answers relied on embarrassed smirks. (We bet he'll get that fixed for the next one.) Here's Pattinson's take on playing rake Georges Duroy in Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod's "Bel Ami," which Columbia Pictures will release next month. He's playing the equivalent of a 19th-century reality TV star. For something written in 1895, this film is saying a lot about »
From behind, we watch a man in ragged clothes look longingly through the window of a fancy Belle Epoque Parisian restaurant. Inside, richly attired women whisper secrets over brimful glasses of champagne and decadent platters laden with food. Later, the hungry man in his mean garret relives the moment, jealousy and bitterness at the injustice of his situation playing across his face, before the memory of such opulence actually makes him cry. It's a convincing, well-observed moment that sets up a lot of what we need to know about the man's character. Oh wait, did we mention the man is played by Robert Pattinson? "Bel Ami," Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod's adaptation of the acerbic Guy de Maupassant novel, features a starry cast in some wonderful costuming, and follows the fortunes of ambitious Georges Duroy (Pattinson) as he ruthlessly climbs his way up the social ladder of 1890s Paris, »

It makes perfect sense that Rob Pattinson would continue his attempts to broaden his fan base as the "Twilight" franchise nears its end. Starring in a new film adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel "Bel Ami" certainly advances that project: Playing Georges Duroy, an unscrupulous ex-soldier who makes his way up the ladder of Parisian high society by seducing the wives of powerful men, adds a few strings to his bow. (Sony Worldwide Acquisitions Group is putting the film out through Magnolia.) Duroy is unscrupulous, self-absorbed and nakedly ambitious, but has enough sexual magnetism to further his career by talking his way into some of the city’s »
You'll be getting our review from the Berlin Film Festival on "Bel Ami" soon, but until then, the jury is still out on the latest non-"Twilight" venture for Robert Pattinson, one that finds him scruffing up his tween sweetheart image to play a character that he describes as "a shit." Right now, it sucks to be an RPatz fan in North America because this movie is still without a release date, but for all you Edward fans in the U.K., the wait is nearly over. With the film headed to theaters next month, a new TV spot with brief bits of new footage and a handful of images are here to tide you over until opening day. As you already know, the film is based on the book by Guy de Maupassant, co-stars Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci, and will find Pattinson playing George Duroy, »

With his final foray with The Twilight Saga on the horizon, Robert Pattinson looks to be setting up a fine post-Twilight career for himself, leading Bel Ami next month and David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis later this year.
Admittedly, Bel Ami at least will be coming before the curtain opens on Breaking Day – Part 2 in November, but with filming finished on the film, Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are both looking on top form to continue with successful careers beyond the franchise’s conclusion.
We’ve now got ten minutes’ worth of clips to share with you from Bel Ami co-directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, who look to be making a promising directorial debut with this, with Rachel Bennette also making her writing debut, based on the 19th century novel of the same name by Guy de Maupassant.

Robert Pattinson film: Guy de Maupassant's Bel Ami Twelve minutes from the latest Robert Pattinson film, an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's Bel Ami, have been uploaded online. Those consist of five brief, disparate scenes from the movie, all of them featuring Pattinson. (This Bel Ami online video — please scroll down — was initially posted at Robert Pattinson Life.) Set in a darkly lit church, the first scene shows Pattinson's ambitious ex-soldier Georges Duroy playing a very determined game of seduction with Older (and very married) Woman Kristin Scott Thomas. In the second, Pattinson convincingly plays a drunk Duroy in a rowdy cabaret. That's when he runs into the obnoxious publisher Charles Forestier, who will inadvertently assist Duroy in his meteoric ascent in Parisian society. The third scene is set at the Forestier dinner table. The issue of class is all too evident — Duroy doesn't know which knife to use. »

It's a good day to be a Robert Pattinson fan. First we had news that Lionsgate continues to flirt and tease the idea of yet another "Twilight" movie, and now, a ten minute sizzle reel of RPatz hawtness from "Bel Ami" has made its way online. Set to premire at the Berlin Film Festival this week, the film is based on the book by Guy de Maupassant, co-stars Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci, and will find Pattinson playing George Duroy, a sexy social climber in turn-of-the-century 1890s Paris, who seduces his way to wealth and fame from a poor beginning. First let's get one thing out of the way -- Pattinson looks fine here, and handles all the scenes well, so if anything about the movie doesn't work, it won't be all on his shoulders. Among the glimpses we get here, we see RPatz putting the moves »
A new poster for Robert Pattinson's period drama Bel Ami has been released. The movie sees Twilight star Pattinson play George Duroy, a penniless soldier who manipulates and beds the wealthy women of Paris in order to climb the social ladder. Guy de Maupassant's 1885 novel provides the basis for the film, which co-stars Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci. Pattinson previously said of the movie: "There's (more) »

Bel Ami poster: Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci This classy, supercool, German (Guy de Maupassant's) Bel Ami poster features Robert Pattinson as the ambitious 19th-century ex-soldier Georges Duroy and the three main women in his life: Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci, and Kristin Scott Thomas. Notice the use of color — blue for Pattinson, green for Thurman, yellow for Ricci, red for Scott Thomas. And notice how Pattinson's blue-clad Duroy is positioned in the foreground, between red-clad Scott Thomas and yellow-clad Ricci, while green-clad Thurman, also slightly in the background, is seen further to the left. (Poster via Robert Pattinson Life.) The German tag line reads: "Senhsucht, Verführung, Begierde." That can be translated as "Longing, Seduction, Desire." Or, perhaps more emphatically, "Desperate Longing, Seduction, Ardent Desire." Also billed on the German-language poster is Colm Meaney, in addition to the Berlin Film Festival itself, with Bel Ami described »

Among the worthy films being premiered at the Berlin film festival over the next 10 days are an epic tracing China's history; three documentaries about the Fukushima nuclear disaster; Werner Herzog's look at death row; and Angelina Jolie's take on the Bosnian war.
But one of the most popular films on the day that tickets went on sale was a Finnish sci-fi comedy about Nazis living on the dark side of the moon.
Iron Sky tells how Hitler's top scientists moved to a lunar military base known as the Black Sun shortly after the end of the second world war. For more than 70 years boffins beavered away on a fleet of spaceships that one day would return to Earth and finish what the Nazis started. In 2018 the invasion begins. »

The official world premiere has finally been announced for Bel Ami, and more pics from the movie are hitting the web every day. What more could an RPattz fan want?
It's been rumored for awhile, but Deadline announced late last week that the movie, based on the Guy de Maupassant novel, will be premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, though it is out of the competition. IMDb currently has the release date for Bel Ami listed for March 2 in both the Us and UK, which would give fans only a little over a month to wait for the opening. The release date has changed before, but hopefully this time it'll stick.
The new photos make it clear the movie is ramping up towards its premiere... And that star Robert Pattinson is handsome in a top hat and tails (which isn't really news), and that he's also handsome while he's angry »

Robert Pattinson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Bel Ami As can be attested by the Bel Ami online clip (see below) from the Russian MTV — with English subtitles — the Robert Pattinson period drama is a potential nominee for the Best Costume Design Academy Award of 201. As part of the Gay Paree Bel Ami look, you get Pattinson wearing a top hat, and Kristin Scott Thomas, Uma Thurman, and Christina Ricci garbed in fancy 19th-century dresses. [Watch Bel Ami trailer.] Dramatically speaking, one Bel Ami scene that is particularly effective features a pathetic — as in, full of pathos — Scott Thomas following and being pushed aside by Pattinson's ambitious former soldier Georges Duroy. The clip also offers several brief — but cool — behind-the-scenes glimpses of the Bel Ami set. Bel Ami, which has already had a few special screenings in various Belgian cities, will have its official world premiere — out of competition — at the Berlin Film Festival. In addition to Robert Pattinson, »
