Yes, Mona Lisa survives in this movie. It isn't obvious why Bruce Conner used the popular song 'Mona Lisa' in this short film. We don't exactly know the relationship between Bruce Conner, the song 'Mona Lisa' and the woman we see, but I guess her name is Vivian. Why else should this picture be called 'Vivian'? It's all a riddle, but if we think about it for a while, we can conclude that mister Conner was in love with the woman we see in this movie, and we can also know for sure that she's called Vivian. Perhaps that's what the movie is about: love, and the possibility love lives forever.
The song 'Mona Lisa' has been sung by many singers, but I never heard this version before. It sounds a bit like Elvis Presley, but I'm not sure. But then again, in experimental films from artists like Kenneth Anger, Jack Smith and Bruce Conner, the images never are to the point and the meaning of them is personal to us all.
To conclude, 'Vivian' is for me a very good short film thanks to the music. The images we see and the action that occurs haven't got good quality, even if you see them on DVD. It's the music that combines us all. Let's try to remember that.
