I saw this movie few years ago in television at the Cuny channel in new york city united states, i did not like the movie very much even it was the story of the mulato poet Placido this was back at the time of the colony about 1840s, the movie was well done but too graphic i don't like bloody or cruel movies , Rosita Fornes has a very small part she play the white woman whose son was Placido she has sex with a black slave and back then in Cuba was ilegal and for that reason she was punishment and she became a prostitute it was the only work she can do she was great in the part, her performance is worth the whole movie, the female lead of the movie is Alina Sanchez a very well know soprano and a mulata she was well know in Cuba as Cecilia Valdes the famous zarzuela by Gonzalo Roig
