Review: Stephen King’s Bag of Bones Miniseries

11 December 2011 2:35 PM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Stephen King was a big part of horror television in the 90’s. Networks weren’t really pushing the limits of TV at the time, so Stephen King-based miniseries always stood out as something special. With bigger budgets and usually a movie actor or two, Stephen King miniseries were huge TV events.

There have been a dozen or so Stephen King-related TV projects, and director Mick Garris has been involved in a number of them, having directed The Stand, The Shining, Desperation, and his most recent project, Bag of Bones.

Unfortunately for Bag of Bones, the TV landscape has changed quite a bit and a TV miniseries doesn’t have the same impact it used to. When TV shows on basic cable have movie-like budgets, talented actors, and quality special effects, how does a miniseries stand out? In the case of Bag of Bones, they hired Pierce Brosnan to »

In the story we meet bestselling novelist Mike Noonan (Pierce Brosnan), who is unable to stop grieving after the sudden death of his wife, Jo (Annabeth Gish). He previously directed Sleepwalkers (1992), The Stand (1994), The Shining (1997), "Chattery Teeth" in Quicksilver Highway (1997), Riding the Bullet (2004), and Desperation (2006). Bag of Bones stars Pierce Brosnan in his first television appearance in over 15 years. Annabeth Gish and Melissa George co-star. News from the Dead Zone: A Doorway to 1963

1 November 2011 9:31 AM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Mystical doorways have been a recurring element in Stephen King's fiction from the beginning. "I Am the Doorway," published in Cavalier in 1971, is about a former astronaut who becomes a doorway for an alien presence. The painting Rosie McClendon buys in Rose Madder is a portal to another reality, and the Black House sits at the juncture between two worlds. The trunk of the Buick 8 is a gateway to another place, the miners in Desperation, Nevada accidentally breech a wall that separates our world from another and the scientists at the Arrowhead project may have caused another such rupture in "The Mist." How could the Colorado Kid have made it from Denver to Maine without using a magic door? Most notably, »

Ben Affleck to direct Stephen King's The Stand?

23 October 2011 10:22 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back in August it was reported that director David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves were looking to follow up the hugley-successful Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 with another book adaptation, developing what was described as 'multi-part film series' based upon Stephen King's post-apocalyptic opus, The Stand. However, Deadline have revealed that Warner Bros. have since turned their attention to Ben Affleck, director of the critically acclaimed Gone Baby Gone and The Town, who is currently busy shooting his third feature, the comedy/drama Argo, co-starring Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski), Kyle Chandler (Super 8) and Michael Parks (Red State).

First published in 1978 (with a revised edition in 1990), The Stand was previously adapted for the screen as a TV miniseries in 1994, with Stephen King regular Mick Garris (Sleepwalkers, The Shining, Riding the Bullet, Desperation) directing a cast that included Rob Lowe, Gary Sinise, »

Which Stephen King Novel is Being Developed Into a Series for Showtime?

30 August 2011 2:31 PM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

According to Deadline, Showtime has put a series adaptation of Stephen King's 2009 novel Under the Dome into development. Joining King in the development process is Steven Spielberg, who will have a hand this season in producing promising newcomers Smash, The River, and Terra Nova. Spielberg also produced TNT's Falling Skies, which was renewed for a second season earlier this summer.

It'll be a pretty sprawling project for Showtime, as Under the Dome tells the story of a small Maine town that's thrown into turmoil once a force field surrounds their community and cuts them off from the outside world, but it'll be one I'd be interested to see play out. There's no mention of what role King would play in the production of the show or if he would be writing any episodes, but King was in talks to write an episode of The Walking Dead as early as »

Yates, whose four Potter outings – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and 2 – have pulled in almost four billion dollars at the global box-office, is set to reunite with screenwriter Steve Kloves (who penned all of the Potters barring Order of the Phoenix), with HitFix reporting that Warner Bros. are close to finalising a deal with both parties.

Originally published in 1978, The Stand sees approximately 99.4% of the world’s population killed by a ‘superflu’ virus known as ‘Captain Tripps’. As society breaks down, two groups of survivors emerge »

Incidente - First Plot Details Revealed!

7 April 2011 12:17 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Last month we brought you the first word on the upcoming Argentinian cinéma-vérité zombie flick Incidente. And though we had stills, a trailer, and many bits of artwork, details were still very much on the scant side of the fence. Until now.

According to director Mariano Cattaneo Incidente was inspired by the likes of [Rec], Lamberto Bava's Demons, The Blair Witch Project, and even Stephen King’s novel Desperation.

"Incidente does not have infected people, nor zombies. It's home to demons who use the humans like clothes," says Catteneo in an interview on his blog.

Undead Backbrain scored the plot crunch, which you can dig on below.

Synopsis

A Special Division police member finds videotape in the form of an unfinished documentary featuring material of a very dark and strange nature.

Years ago in the Nacan’s Factory, an employee killed 16 workers and finally himself. Investigating police could find no logical explanation for the events, »

Argentina goes [Rec] route in satanic zombie flick Incidente

15 February 2011 9:15 AM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

Argentinian writer/director Mariano Cattaneo lists Demons by Lamberto Bava, and Stephen King’s "Desperation" as primary influences for Incidente, a zombie horror film that looks to be in the vein of Spain's [Rec] and its Hollywood counter part, Quarantine.

Doesn't look quite as well done or intense as [Rec], but hey it's demon zombies running around a old building that's the scene of a crime.

Official trailer (via: Undead Backbrain) after the break.
