OLD FORMAT, NOTHING NEW
J. Steed27 June 1999
The format "Child looks for father and husband for its unmarried mother" was very popular in the 50's, but after 40 years the only innovation seems to be that the independent and emancipated mother just is not capable enough to quite manage on her own and the right and ideal husband is needed to make the woman's life complete and less a chaos. Moreover, how many of these middle-class emancipation comedies have already been made along the more or less same lines in the 90's? Ad nauseam I think.

Both Veronica Ferres and Jan Josef Lievens save this film from being crushed by all the cliches of the formula. There are some funny (and one very good) visual jokes, but they are few and far between. What could have been a hilarious leading thread - the man who is constantly being beaten up by the Ferres' character - more or less fizzles out. The film is not helped much by average direction; see this one only when you can really spare the time.
