Pretty darned bad, mildly watchable forgettable slasher nonsense.
27 August 2009 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

Honeymoon Horror was apparently one of the very first straight to video slashers, coming out at a time that was pretty decent for the genre, with a number of fine and gruesome outings. Its not very good, but I still kinda liked it. The plot sees adulterous wife Elaine and her lover Vic accidentally torch her husband when he discovers their affair. Cut forward a little time and they have established a little island resort for honeymooning couples, where first some giggling girls and later a batch of newlyweds are struck down by a mysterious killer. Well, I say mysterious but there isn't much mystery to the film, its more a case of a kinda dull romp through worn slasher conventions, coming off as older than it really is, with only a few moments particularly memorable and mostly bad acting. The only exception is Cheryl Black as Elaine who is actually pretty cool throughout, she has a sort of old school, 1940's to 50's classic tough lady thing going on which makes her stand well apart from everyone else, a likable character who illuminates all her scenes. Apart from her all the characters are pretty dull, though it is interesting that the women are notably smarter than the mostly weak or boorish men. The film simply chugs away, some amusing lines, flashes of suspense or fun and one or two decent scenes wrought by writer/director Harry Preston, these are the minor tidbits that keep serious slasher and bad movie freaks sufficiently hooked for the movies run time. The finale is actually sorta neat in a lowbrow kinda way and there are a couple of gore moments and some bloodshed where the killing is concerned. Altogether this isn't something I would actually recommend, on account of it being pretty drecky, but rest assured the few souls like myself committed to seeing all possible oldie slashers out there could do far worse.
