America's greatest living black actor does MY DINNER WITH ANDRE
nunculus12 June 2000
Three black intellectuals--one middle-aged, one youngish, one tilting to the right--gather for a Wally-and-Andre-style dinner of ideas. The performance of Bernie Casey, and the level of the conversation, carry you a long way--especially past the hateful business in which white women are dramatically depicted as the Bane of All Things Human. Mr. Casey has some issues with the white hoochie gals. Too bad they mar what is, to me, a first: a black version of the middlebrow white brain-candy movie.
