If you haven't seen He-Man and the Masters of the Universe either because you weren't born or because you haven't got round to it then may I suggest you get your hands on a copy.

I've always liked fantasy shows and you don't get more fantasy than He-Man. He-Man was the allegedly mightiest man in the universe and he led the forces of good against the truly wicked Skeletor who was evil personified.

The characters, the vehicles, the weapons and the stories were fantastic. Joining He-Man were the likes of Buzz-Off (a bumblebee man), Battle Cat (a ferocious tiger like cat) and Stratos (a birdman). They battled the likes of Skeletor and his crew which included Spikor (covered in Spikes), Stinkor (smelt worse than anything) and Beast Man (a big hairy creature). They battled all across Planet Eternia and He-Man always won. Also, it may be lost on young viewers but the show always tried to persuade it's audience to do the right thing in life which is a good thing. After all, wouldn't you rather have someone like He-Man giving moral guidance as opposed to some real life guy in a suit?

My favourite scenes was where wimpy Prince Adam held aloft his sword and became He-Man in a flash of light. He would then point his sword at his cowardly pet Cringer and turn him into the brave Battle Cat.

A great show-they don't make them like this anymore.

Sheer excitement and grand adventure
paul_haakonsen8 August 2010
"He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" were and still are, to me, one of the best cartoons ever made.

This is a classic tale of good vs. evil, where each single episode was a story in itself and it always had some morale to tell.

The characters in the cartoon were colorful and very well fleshed out, both the good guys and the bad guys. You had strong heroes, wise heroes, those who ended up in bad situations because of bad luck, you had devious villains, plotting henchmen, and so on and so on. Every character brought something unique to the series, and it worked out very well.

Even the re-make of the cartoon series around 2002 proved quite impressive to me as well.

I grew up watching He-Man on TV, and I loved the show, I loved the toys, and I am still quite fond of "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe". This is a series that I return to ever so often for good old times and for the good entertainment. And it is something that I will pass on to my son.

If you were born before the 80's, chances are that you know the He-Man cartoon, unless you were living under some isolated rock in a galaxy far, far away. If you were born after this glorious decade, you might not be familiar with "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe", and that is a tragedy. So you should do yourself the favor of actually purchasing the original 80's series on DVD or BluRay, and also get the 2002 series as well while you are at it. "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" is a timeless classic cartoon that is fun and exciting.

Definitely one of my top favorites ever!

"By the power of Grayskull! I HAVE THE POWER!"
DarthBill27 April 2004
Ah, He-Man... larger than life hero of my infant years.

Yeah it all feels real campy now, but it's hard to dislike this old show, one of the most fondly remembered of the 80s era.

Prince Adam and He-Man looked exactly the same, just like Clark Kent/Superman, and no one ever caught on. Prince Adam's wardrobe could have used some work, but hey, it was aimed at little kids. In today's increasingly cynical era in which finding kid friendly shows is getting ever harder to do, parents should rest assured that this one is user friendly and shouldn't leave their children too badly scarred. Too bad they don't try to work in more morality into shows anymore.

Remade twice so far and one live action feature film. The new He-Man actually looks kind of like Dolph Lundgren of the live action film, but with a much more wildly drawn physique. Also had a spin off known as "She-Ra: Princess of Power". Whether or not that will be remade I don't know.

I always thought "Thundercats" borrowed a lot from He-Man: big burly hero, magical sword, demonic villain, lots of hideous henchmen, and lots of science fictional elements blended with fantasy elements. The biggest difference, of course, was that He-Man was smarter than Lion-O, the lead character of "Thundercats" (not that that was completely his fault).

Pure Nostalgia

I happen to have loved the 1980's.

The cartoons, movies, the music.

Prince and Michael Jackson with the music, the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, and then there was of course, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Those of us lucky enough to spend our childhood in the administration of Reagan, were blessed with this cartoon.

I picked this gem up on DVD a month ago and I love it. I watch it with the intensity that I did as a kid.

I wanted to show my children what real cartoons were all about. Now my children love He-Man, to the point where I had to make my 3 year old a power sword out of wood and I spray-painted it silver. Now he runs around the house, with it in the back of his shirt screaming, 'by the power of gray skull!' In fact, I'm going to also pick up the whole season 1 when it comes out later this week.

Just watching these things takes me back to 1983. The only thing that ever bothered me was that the Eternians were idiots. How could you not know that Prince Adam and He-Man were one and the same.

1. They look exactly alike

2. One is never around when the other one is

3. As soon as one disappears the other shows back up.

Pick it up and you'll learn what real cartoons were all about!!

‘He-man and the masters of the universe', one of the great cartoons the world has ever seen!
Old Joe6 February 2003
When it comes to a cartoon that had brut force and action, nothing can go past the 1983 series of ‘He-man and the masters of the universe'. In an era that had so many great cartoons, ‘He-man' stood tall and was a great success. He-man would have to go up as one of the great cartoons of all time. Once Prince Adam held up his magical sword and turned into ‘the most powerful man in the universe', every kid in the 80's was in for the ride of their life.

In the mystical planet of ‘Eternia', lives Prince Adam, a prince who leads the lazy life of royalty. Known by only a few close friends/allies, when Prince Adam holds up his magic sword, and says ‘by the power of Grayskull', he turns into the mighty hero, ‘He-Man'. Together with his friends (such as Teela, her father, Man-at-arms, mysterious Orko and Adam's wimpy cat, Cringer, who turns into Battle Cat), He-Man must battle ‘the masters of the universe', who strive to gain control of Eternia and the secrets of Castle Grayskull. Grayskull is the magical centre of Eternia, from where He-Man derives his powers, and is the one place he must defend from the evil Skeletor.

I believe He-man was successful for many reasons. There was some real inventive character in He-man. Our hero himself was an impressive and imposing character and drawn up to perfection. Other good people include Orko, Man-At-Arms (Duncan), The Sorceress, Ram-Man, Stratos, Teela, King Randor and Queen Marlena. The Bad guys include their leader, Skeletor, who is as evil a character I have seen on a cartoon. Behind Skeletor are Evil-Lyn, Beast Man, Tri-Klops, Merman and TrapJaw. They are all different types of people, with strange powers and abilities.

The voice-overs for He-man come from a limited amount of people, showing how good these people's voiceover talents really are. Talents such as John Erwin, Alan Oppenheimer, Linda Gray, Lou and Erika Schreimer, have a great variety of characters to voice, with some of the voices such as Skeletor's and Orko's, quite remarkable.

I love the world that was designed for this cartoon. Having it be as magical-a -place as ‘Eternia', where it has great magical powers was really interesting. To then add fascinating little facets such as Castle Grayskull (the magical home of Eternia), Skeletor's hideout Snake Mountain, the palace in the centre of Eternia and the crystal sea were good for the story. The talents behind the ideas for the He-man's characters, home planet and storylines include

Can there be any hero that can top ‘He-man'? I believe there is not, because he was good to watch as a kid, giving us all the belief to do what is right and to not follow the path of evil. My favourite characters in the series have to be Orko and Skeletor, who had interesting stories behind them. He-man also had a twin sister named ‘She-Ra' who had all the same magical powers as He-man, (with a great TV cartoon movie, titled ‘The Secret of the Sword'). It was interesting to learn how She-Ra comes to be and how she was taken away from her parents as a baby. I was surprised to learn that there was a new version of ‘He-man', released last year. Although it is a little different, in my opinion the new He-man looks great. While I might be a bit old to get into it, the ‘kid' in me will be on lookout to see a few episodes.

The cartoon that changed 80's cartoons forever...
justin-fencsak18 July 2010
When I first saw He-Man on TV as part of USA's Cartoon Express in the late 80's, I got hooked, which led me to buy all the merchandise from that show and the "new" He-Man that came out in the early 90's, which didn't do well as this one. This was probably the best cartoon that Filmation did (alongside Fat Albert and Bravestarr), with animated violence that wasn't unheard of in an American cartoon plus a moral at the end to teach young kids about good stuff. The dialogue can be corny at times, but the music is memorable and the characters easy to follow. In recent years, younger people have associated He-Man with gayness since he's a muscular man. He-Man still has the power.

This show is better than new cartoons
minerals23 October 2004
One thing many people do not realize especially the person who posted a comment before i did is that the advice scenes at the end of each episode of this show and 8 or 9 other shows taught good things to children and compared to today's shows this is one show that all children need to watch because when this show and the other shows of that group of 8 or 9 shows were all on you rarely got news reports of kids being caught with Guns, Knives, Drugs, or Exsplosives on school grounds because this show and the others taught kids right from wrong. This show focused on teaching kids to obey their parents and other elders where the new TV shows promote violence and destruction. I feel that this show should be seen by all of the young children that are under 10 years old.

Wholesome children's entertainment, and an '80s classic
jimjo121612 September 2009
HE-MAN is a vintage '80s after school cartoon. Full of fun adventures and unique characters. When trouble arises, Prince Adam wields his mighty sword and is transformed into He-Man: the most powerful man in the universe.

The world of HE-MAN is like a mix of medieval mythology, fantasy, and futuristic technology. There are kings and queens, castles and dragons, laser beams and hovercraft, and magic and sorcery. The nefarious Skeletor is He-Man's sworn enemy, and in every episode he and his minions come up with new plots to take over the world.

The animation is nothing fancy, but it hearkens back to a simpler time. You can tell the studio was trying to save money by reusing animation where convenient. Young viewers won't complain, though, about the "dated" feel.

I think HE-MAN is still a good show for children, even today. Decried at the time for being too violent, the show is very tame by today's standards. (Occasionally the hero tosses a villain into a river.) The episodes are fun adventures and each episode ends with a valuable life lesson aimed at kids.

Fondly remembered by the children of the '80s, I wouldn't hesitate to show HE-MAN to my own children someday.

Still one of the best.
Figaro-82 June 2000
Man, how I wish they would bring this show back! It literally transported you into another world. This show, as in other Filmation series like Blackstar and Bravestarr, had some outstanding character design, especially among the villains. I mean, Skeletor was a guy with blue skin and a skull for a head. How cool is that? Plus he had a great voice (his laughs were just creepy!) via Alan Oppenheimer. On the good side, He-Man was cool, but my favorite character was his pet tiger Cringer's alter ego, Battle Cat. (Talk about someone doing a complete 180!) A green tiger with battle armor? That's just plain COOL! (The Battle Cat action figure was neat as well, although the only thing you could do with him was take his armor off.) PLEASE someone get this back on the tube where it belongs so I can relive this great show!

One of the Greats of the 80s!.
dayton-w-price30 April 2020
This is one of the absolute greatest cartoons from the 80's, along with Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Thundercats. That statement of course is based on the success of the toys and shows. I love everything about this show, the characters and the cheesy dialogue, to more serious parts and my favorite bit, is at the end of every episode there is a moral lesson that is taught to the viewer, I just love that. I recently heard about the remake series in the early 2000, and read some of the reviews about people bad mouthing the original and it low budget and so called production values, just rubbish. It's because of how unbelievably successful the toys and this show was In the 80's, that a remake show was even considered and made, that this beloved franchise continues to live in minds and hearts of fans forever, instead of fading into obscurity like so many other shows from that era. So do me a favor, show some respect and appreciation for what was possible and achieved back then, weather your a fan or not, you can't deny the lasting impact it's had on the world, I love it so bad. 10/10.

I have the POWER and SO MUCH MORE
MovieCriticMarvelfan14 November 2002
On my Birthday (Nov 13, next to Veteran's day) I thought I review something special, and one thing came to mind "He-Man", probably the greatest cartoon (done by Funimation) done ever.

Even 20 yrs later "He-Man" surpasses many cartoons for it's quality, action, and beautiful hand drawn animation (now literally forgotten as most cartoons use computers).

Cartoon Network has now tried to cash in on the classic, but looking at both versions "Toonami"'s version of He-Man pales in comparison to the 1983-1985 185 Episodes classic.

The classic hasn't been shown in the air for ages, but through my power I have been able to download of the episodes.

Check out this cartoon it's a classic.

This is an iconic 80s cartoon series that is an absolutely must see
kevin_robbins4 January 2023
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983-1985) was my absolute favorite show as a kid, the box sets are in my DVD collection and I recently rewatched the entire series on Amazon Prime/YouTube. The storyline follows a world known as Eternia that has unique people, creatures, magic and powers like nothing we've seen on Earth. A king, who married an Earth woman who crashed on Eternia, has a son, Adam, who has secret powers that allow him to transform into the strongest man in the universe. He uses these powers to protect the people and creatures of Eternia from evil.

This series was produced by and contained the voice of Lou Scheimer (Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids) and also contained the voices of John Erwin (Babe), Alan Oppenheimer (Westworld) and Linda Gary (Happily Ever After).

The characters and universe He-Man takes place in really captures the imagination and makes you wish you were there. The animation style is dated but still fun to watch and draws you in. The series does a great job of both entertaining and teaching important values with every episode having a lesson learned at the end. It was impossible to not love all of the characters, especially Orko who provided comedy, unique family/friends and was always in trouble. Teela was a smoke show in this and the flashback scenes when the various character were young were really good. The blind episode in season 2 always gave me anxiety and made my heart race as it unfolded. I will say the heroes and villains were equally interesting, especially with how aggressive Skeletor communicated and insulted everyone. The toys that were out with this series were amazing too. I had to have them as a kid. The soundtrack was excellent and fit the science fiction elements of the series perfectly.

Overall, this is an iconic 80s cartoon series that is an absolutely must see and was smarter than it gets credit for. I would consider this an absolute must see and score it a 10/10.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe - In-depth review!
Movie Nuttball8 January 2003
As I have said before He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is My all time favorite cartoon or animated series. I still watch it to this day because it is so wonderful in so many ways. I love it for many reasons and here is some of them reasons why! I love it for the calmness it has. It isn't fast paced like today's animated shows. Each episode had its own great story. Each character has an awesome personality, looks, and what have you. The men all have big muscles and the women are so neat looking. I really liked the messages the guys tell the viewers at the end of the shows. I love the totally cool monsters and the wonderful creatures the series has. I also love it for something's I'm sure most or some viewers of the show don't notice and that is the way the characters walk and especially run. I also adore the music. It has such a great score and great beginning and end themes! I just love the fight scenes. They are so real! I love the intro of the series. I can go on and on about this. Now below is an in-depth look at most of the great characters seen the episodes of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!

Note: What you are about to read here is My opinions on the characters and My opinions only.

This is not all of the great characters in He-Man and the Masters of the universe but is a guide to show the viewer most of the important heroes and villains in the universe!

The Heroes - These are the mightiest warriors on Eternia.

Prince Adam/He-Man - Adam has the biggest secret and only four others share the secret: The Sorceress, Man-At-Arms, Orko, and Cringer. Prince Adam acts like a coward in front of his father or always leaves when trouble starts to hide his huge secret. He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe is the Defender of Eternia, a large muscular man of good, he will not kill anyone or anything no matter how evil they are. (But in one episode this changes and I don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't seen it yet.)

Cringer/Battle Cat - Cringer, one of the four that knows Prince Adam's secret. The talking fraidy cat who is always thinking of cat naps and food. He would rather eat a big meal than to turn into the huge and mighty green tiger that is known as Battle Cat,He-Man's loyal friend.

Man-At-Arms - The Royal Palace's Man at arms. Duncan is a master of weapons, building machines, vehicles, computers etc. Man-At-Arms is an intelligent person, a very kind man and he is always thinking of others especially his daughter Teela. Man-At-Arms is one of three who knows Prince Adam's and Cringer's secret.

Teela - Duncan's daughter is a beautiful young woman who is captain of the guard. She can take care of herself as she is a skilled warrior but at times she is stubborn. Teela is a very smart woman and she does care for others. Whenever He-Man and Teela are together she wonders where Prince Adam is. What she also doesn't know is that He-Man and the Prince are one in the same!

Orko - The magician from Trolla is clever but clumsy and his magic doesn't always work well on Eternia. Orko is a very loyal companion as he is one of the four who is aware of Adam's big secret.

King Randor - The King of Eternia and is Prince Adam's father. Randor was once a warrior though older, he still has what it takes to take care of himself and others when the time calls for it. Randor always thinks that his son Adam doesn't take things seriously when something bad happens as he leaves the room and his excuse is always that something has come up. Little does King Randor know that his son has the biggest secret ever and that he is the legendary He-Man!

Queen Marlena - Adam's Mother is older yet a fine looking woman who loves her son but is unaware of his big secret. Your highness is different from the other people on Eternia. What makes her different is that she is from a different planet. Marlena is from the planet Earth. She was in a shuttle and crashed on Eternia and that's how the queen began her new life on a new world for her. She loves Eternia with its great lands, creatures, and peoples but she does miss her home world often.

The Sorceress - The Sorceress is a very beautiful woman of mystery that lives in Castle Greyskull. She is very powerful in the magical ways and she is able to turn herself into the large falcon Zoar. She talks to Prince Adam/He-Man and Man-At-Arms through thought transfers whenever there is trouble. The Sorceress and Teela has a big secret though Teela only knew it for a limited time that the Sorceress is actually Teela's mother. The magical one did not allow Teela to know about this secret for good reasons.

Stratos - The winged warrior of avion is always there for the palace. He is brave and is always willing to help out no matter what the situation is.

Ram Man - Like Stratos he is a loyal friend to the palace though he isn't the bravest warrior on the planet. He is a helpful armored human battering ram but his heart is bigger than his brain.

Man-E-Faces - The good spirited person who turned actor. He loves acting with his multiple faces and personalities. Man-E-Faces is a big rough and tough individual.

Mekaneck - The heroic human periscope is always on the look out for He-Man and friends. With his mighty golden club, big muscles, and bravery. Mekaneck is a very loyal friend to the Royal Palace.

Buzz-off - Buzz-off, the buzzing spy in the sky if you will is always interested in a good battle and helping out He-Man and others.

Fisto - A bearded armored muscular man who has a massive steel hand is a great fighter.

Granamyr - The gargantuan red dragon is one of the oldest living creatures on Eternia that lives at Dark Smoke. He is very wise and powerful in strength and in the magical arts. He is an incredible force to be reckon with!

---------------

The Foes - These are Skeletor's warriors. They help Skeletor do his dirty work even though he is very powerful he could rule Eternia.

Skeletor - The most evil being on Eternia, Skeletor with his awesome yet scary appearance is not someone to take lightly. The big and muscular blue bodied warrior who has a skull for a face with such a villainous voice knows just about everything there is to know on Eternia but what he doesn't know is Prince Adam's secret and the secrets of Castle Greyskull. He is always after what lies in Castle Greyskull and has come close many times. The scary one lives at Snake Mountain which is a scary place in its own right and you never know what lives around it. He keeps monsters and other creatures locked up in his dungeon to do his bidding. Skeletor is very powerful in the magical arts. It was always rumored that Skeletor is King Randor's brother Keldor. Keldor's description fits but it was never said by the King or anyone else for that matter. Skeletor is really a mystery man but the thing he wants the most is to know the secrets of Castle Greyskull, get rid of He-Man once and for all, be the master on Eternia and, the ruler of the universe!

Panthor - A huge black panther, Panthor is to Skeletor much like Battle Cat is to He-Man. Panthor loves to get into a fight especially with Battle Cat but it seems after the battle is done Panthor always retreats but he does his master well!

Beast Man - The one who can control the creatures on Eternia is always called names by his leader Skeletor. He isn't that intelligent but is very powerful indeed. He has an agenda of being the leader of villainy on Eternia.

Mer-Man - The muscular warrior of the ocean who is the master of most of the great water's sea monsters and other creatures is strong and can put up a good fight but at times clumsy. This is what causes him to lose his fights with He-Man as the most powerful man of the universe always throws him in mud.

Trap-Jaw - The menace that is known as Trap-Jaw always has a new weapon for his mechanical arm. His weapons are very powerful and they consist of laser guns, claws, hooks, etc. Trap Jaw's name is perfect for him because of his steel jaw with razor sharp teeth. At one time Trap Jaw almost defeated He-Man with the help of a special object.

Tri-Clops - A great warrior who has a three eyes can see through big rocks and walls and among other objects. The muscular henchman of Skeletor is a loyal one at that.

Evil-Lyn - Evil-Lyn, the beautiful witch of darkness is really Skeletor's most loyal warrior and for being a female she gets a lot of results. She rarely takes off her helmet but what is underneath there is short white hair. Evil-Lyn is very powerful in the arts of magic. Like Beast Man She too has her own agenda of being the one to rule Eternia.

Whiplash - The large green warrior with a massive tail is intelligent and clever at hiding tracks and retreating. He is brave and he knows when to quit a fight if he can't handle it any longer.

Clawful - He has two extremely strong claws for hands. Clawful, with his mean voice, crustacean/reptilian like appearance makes him a force not to mess with.

Kobra Khan - One of the many members of the Snake People, Kobra Khan can do many impressive things such as spray sleep gas through the coat of his neck. He has the knowledge to become a great leader.

Webstor - He is a master of escaping with his big climbing hook. He is really an underrated henchman of Skeletor and isn't give much credit.

Faker - Faker, the evil He-Man that Skeletor created gave He-Man trouble at one time. (Note: The action figure of Faker had orange hair, blue skin and wore Skeletor's armor. In the animated series he looked exactly like He-Man except he has glowing eyes and his voice is lower toned).

Jitsu - Like Fisto he has a large hand and he a master on the martial arts.

Spikor - A warrior that has spikes all over his dark colored body. He is another underrated villain of Skeletor's.

Two-Bad - Two-Bad, the two headed warrior loves strategy but fails at missions.

Screech - The giant mechanical falcon is very dangerous but the huge bird never really completed any of his missions.

-----------------

The following is My opinion(s)

I think He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is a spectacular animated series and it has always been My favorite. The 1980s produced a lot of great things and this series was one of them. The whole series is priceless in My book and even though there is a new He-Man series currently on television there will never be an animated series like this again.

By the Power Of Greyskull
Terryfan24 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"He-man and the Masters of The Universe

I am Adam, Prince of Eternia, Defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull.

This is Cringer, my fearless friend.

Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said "By the power of Grayskull, I have the power!"

Cringer became the mighty BattleCat and I became He-man, the most powerful man in the universe.

Only three others share this secret: our friends the Sorceress, Man-At-Arms and Orko. Together we defend Castle Grayskull from the evil forces of Skeletor."

The 1980s deliver some of the most powerful and classic cartoons ever and He-Man And the Masters of The Universe is No exception.

The series follows Prince Adam who with the help of his magic sword transformed into He-Man the strongest man in the Universe along with his friend Cringer who is scared of everything but when transformed into Battlecat he is a force of good.

As with the help of their friends Man At Arms, The Sorceress, Orko and Teela join together to battle Skeletor the most evil being in the universe.

The show also had a lot of valuable lessons after each episode along with showing how the Battle of Good vs Evil stories should be written.

The cast you can tell gave it their best with their respective characters. The writers also help wrote a good series of stories that helps characters grow with the audience.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe really knew how to create a series that stood out with among some of the best shows of the 80s.

The series is a must watched for anyone who appreciates good stories and characters.

Greatest animated adventure series
Frank-393 August 1998
This is the greatest animated adventure series ever made in the history of the universe. Based on a Mattel toy line originally intended to be Conan the Barbarian toys this series has every element to make a successful hero story. The animation first of all is brilliant and the production studio Filmation was the only cartoon studio in history to do all their animation entirely within the USA. This has an interesting and varied cast of characters. The aloof King Randor from whom He-Man when he is in the form of Prince Adam is always searching for approval. The strong captian of the Royal Gaurd Teela. The wise inventor and military officer Man-at-Arms. The ultimate comic relief character Orko the Trollan court jester. Then Skeletor one of the best villians of all time. Histronic, operatic, and always blaming his lackeys for the defeats he suffers by He-Man. Those lackeys are pretty good too. Beast-Man controller of all animals, Trapjaw cyborgian wizard of weapons, Triclops master of vision, Mer-Man controller of all sea-creatures, and Evil-Lyn witch of night. Watch this series and be swept off into a romantic and fantastic world that no one seems to know how to take you to anymore.

Masters of Cartoons!

Another cartoon show I've watched when I was a little kid. I don't remember too much from it, but did remember it to be very entertaining and adventurous.

There are plenty of good guy vs. bad guy action the most powerful man in the universe, He-Man, goes against the evil forces of Skeletor to save Planet Eternia and to protect the secrets of Castle Grayskull.

Endless battles of sword-fights, magic and creatures - pretty good excitement for any kid and definitely a memorable 1980s. And, who could forget the catchphrase: "Power of the Universe!"

I have the Power
hellraiser74 May 2018
This is one of my favorite animated shows of all time, and it's another childhood gem of mine.

I was kid from the 80's and I was six years old at the time I saw this show, this show is literally one of the first animated shows I've ever seen. It literally blew my mind it was no show I've ever seen before, in fact it was nothing anyone ever seen before at the time, it's one of the things I love about the sci-fi and fantasy genres are their full of surprises.

This show did so much for me, it actually got me into the sci-fi and fantasy genres, without this show I never would of known or got into movies like "Star Wars" or TV shows like "Doctor Who", etc. Even sort of inspired me to get into physical fitness as I wanted to be as strong and in shape as He-Man, remember one time when I was still little trying to push down a telephone pole, couldn't do it of course. To this day I still enjoy watching it, not just to appeal to the kid inside me but also appreciating it for what it is.

There is just so much going for the show, the animation is very good I wouldn't say ground breaking but it's not trying to be just good enough to accomplish what it wants to deliver to us. I really love the fantasy world of Eternia, this place is true to it's name as it just has an endless amount of lands, customs, out of this world wonders, you name it which is the perfect place for lots of adventure. I even love the fact that this is a place that is one foot in the realm of fantasy but one foot in sci-fi which is awesome because both make such a beautiful combination as we see the mystic arts are still practiced but also there is science and technology both play their roles well and at the right times. And there are also memorable alien creatures and monsters and we see lots of them whom are never in short supply.

I really love the music, from some of the tunes in episodes but mainly the theme song which is one of my favorite themes songs of all time as it is just booming with the sense of a big hero and epic adventure.

Characters are all fun and colorful, from the heroes: He-Man/Prince Adam whom yeah he's kind of bland but in a good way, it's just always awesome seeing He-Man in action using his super strength, or even just using that power sword as it can just cut about anything like butter, deflect laser bolt you can practically hit the bolts like tennis balls. But I just love the concept of having a power sword and changing yourself whenever you need to into a powerful warrior, kind of like DC character Captain Marvel or even Sailor Moon; seeing that as a kid I wanted a power sword of my own it would be handy in case any bullies targeted you or better yet stop any life and death situations that would occur.

Let alone seeing him ride on his pet/side kick Battle Cat, whom is also a cool character. We at first see him as the talking tiger Cringer whom is sort of a Scooby Doo like character like him a real fraddy cat but has a series case of the munchies. However whenever He-Man zaps him with the sword he turns into a real bad ass with the persona to boot, he Battle Cat persona has this tough dry charisma and humor. I really love the armor design of him and seeing him kick some ass with He-Man. I also wanted to be able to do that, turn my pet cat or dog into a giant bad ass, ride on him and have him help me out in a fight or if ever I'm in trouble.

Orko he's a character I always had the most fun, he's the most colorful character in the show, yeah he's a comic relief but he's not annoying, he kind of reminds me a bit of Mr. Mixipilk from "Superman" only he's good. He's a wizard from another dimension who's magic for some reason doesn't work as well in the Eternia realm, which would make sense since each realms physics are different at least that's what I think. His magic kind of behaves like a beat up car, sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't, but to me this sort of humanizes the character a bit makes him sort of an underdog because despite this hiccup lets alone certain failures he still tries. I really love how there is this strangeness and enigma to his character (he is from a different dimension after all) he is just full of surprises from his hat in episodes that sometimes opens up and a hand pops out to pick something up or throw something. A pyramid he owns when opened there is always something different, like one side brings out fruit, other sides I won't tell you have to see the episode yourself. But what I like about him the most is he's child like, energetic, but he's always willing to do the right thing and help his friends out to the best of his flawed ability.

Villains are also fun, there is Evil Lyn whom I'll admit despite some of the other women in the He-Man virse I actually was attracted to her, what can I say I'm into bad girls. I don't know may 'be it's that outfit she wears but I thought she was kind of cool as she's a bit like who Star scream is in "Transformers" despite working for Skelator she doesn't really like or respect him and has her own agenda. Despite wanting to defeat the eterians she also wants to get a step up in the game; she literally could almost be a equal in power to Skelator sometimes more powerful.

Skelator he's strangely my favorite character in the show and one of my favorite fictional villains. He's a villain that emits menace but is also comical at the same time, from that glowing skull to that voice, hearing that cackling laugh from him is music to my ears. He is another really colorful character as it's just fun seeing him always coming up with schemes to foil He-Man and his friends but they always fall flat because either they outwit him or sometimes there is hole or two in the plan, much like with "Pinky and the Brain"; and it always ends in a lot of grief for him. But I also love how he gives a lot of grief to the cohorts that work for him like Beast Man, Trap Jaw, and everyone else; likewise on their part.

But of course this show we're all in it for the action and adventure. The action is good it's not exactly wall to wall like you would see on other shows, but good enough as we see He-Man and the rest beating the crap out of Skelator and his forces but also the dangers Eternia has to offer. Or even some vehicular assault, I always loved seeing them use those vehicles like the Star Raider, Attack Track, though my favorite is the Sky Sled, though I always wonder how they heck to they stay on those vehicles as their up in the air sometimes doing a one eighty loop, are they magnetized to the vehicle somehow? Each episode was always something different which made it all the more thrilling and fun because it meant a different adventure each time, I remember every time it came on I wondered where were He-Man and his friends going to go to next, what other monsters are they going to fight, or what will Skelator be up to now.

Also this show had some moral lessons, which I'll admit might make the show seem preachy but I think can be effective when you have suddlety too it, much like with the "Power Rangers" shows. We some of this is a bit of the episode but mainly it's after the episode when we see the characters talk to the audience at the end and speak out the lesson of the day. Though I just thought it was kind of cool seeing these character talk directly to us, it was almost like breaking a forth wall.

This show has the power.

He-Man would never have lasted to today if it were just toys.
csoltesz13 November 2002
There was a reason this show was the hit of the '80's and maintains a loyal fan base to this day. It wasn't the toys (every other show had toys too), and it wasn't the media hype - it was the stories. The tales were thoughtful, compassionate and relevant. As an adult looking back, I can see the underlying themes much better, but even as a child I understood that Castle GraySkull was a thinly-veiled metaphor for the viewers mind (as well as a "things aren't always what they seem" lesson) and that love was the main point. I never cared for She-Ra as much, but the credits sang out the motif clearly - "For the Honor of Love...By the Power Above...We have the Power, so can You..."

I am NOT of any particular religion, and attempts to infiltrate a dogma into a show usually irritate the XYZ out of me, but this was does well. This was done Right. They took an ordinary "Muscle-Hero" story and managed to subtly turn it on its head; to satisfy the desire for adventure while teaching kindness and morality. It was, in all, a gentle show. A unique show, like Fat Albert. I wish they would reshow it.

Many people say that it wouldn't fly nowadays, that today's kids are too sophisticated for the slower things. Maybe. But I think it's worth the try.

Comment of the very emotional and epic episode: The Problem with Power!
Movie Nuttball13 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Here is a comment for the very special episode of the epic and classic He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: The Problem with Power!

May contain spoilers.

I have always loved He-man but I never had a chance to watch all one-hundred and twenty-three of them and I was never able to see this episode before until now! How was I able to see it you ask? Well, as an action figure collector I collector the new He-Man figures and I was able to obtain the rare Battle Sound Skeletor action figure which included a very special VHS video tape of one of the original episodes The Problem with Power! Now about the episode. The plot is that Skeletor has a new plan to defeat He-Man.His plan it to trick He-Man that he killed a man and this would get rid of the most powerful man in the universe forever because he couldn't stand the fact that he did something so horrible!I really don't want to spoil it but now I'll get into the other things. There really isn't many characters in the episode at all compared to other episodes.Only He-Man/Prince Adam, Orko,Man-At-Arms,Teela,King Randor,Queen Marlena,The Sorceress,Skeletor, Trap Jaw,The Goblin leader,a Goblin army, and some villagers.I have always loved the animation in the series but in this very episode the it extortionary especially when He-Man is on the ledge of Castle Greyskull as I feel it is as great as today's animation! The voices are really good as always but Prince Adam's and Skeletor's were really different.Same great voices but its the way they spoke.I loved it when Adam was falling down in the Bottomless Abyss and he said "I don't know if this Abyss in Bottomless but I know it goes down a long, long way!"Anyway,Most He-Man fans love this episode and feel that it was the perfect episode to have ended once of the greatest series' of all time!I don't blame them!It truly is a wonderful and magnificent episode and If you have or haven't seen this episode it deserves so much and whether you are an action figure collector or not and are able to find the figure I mentioned above in a store or on the web such as Ebay and love the classic episodes of He-man buy it!It is a must have and a must see!You won't be disappointed! In closing I love the episode and I thank the Lord that I was able to find the figure and watch the video!

Great characters, assuring safety protection, ( not usually distressing... i thought the unicorn hunter episode had a broken lesson). clever ways of stopping bad guys . And you learn something in every episode!!. Some might call that cheesy and preachy but i love it!!. Im not being ironic! . it gives me a power watching it!!. I feel if the characters were real i could trust them.

This started my childhood
smwrightdox17 May 2020
He-Man and the Masters or the Universe was my first real obsession as a kid, I needed all the toys (which I couldn't have all of them) and made sure I never missed an episode! I have the entire series on DVD and watch episodes when I can and still enjoy them as an adult, yes the animation isn't up to today's standards but I think it still holds up well.
