Taiwan highways are crammed with millions of cars everyday. One day, the government closes the highways for 12 hours. All the cars are forced off their usual routes... Youthful Jade steals a jeep. On her way, she picks up the car's cell phone and calls the owner to bug him. Two of them gradually establish an ambiguous relationship. A trigger-happy man avenges his father's death and hijacks a bus. The bus driver gradually develops a sympathy for the killer, and begins to assume a father's role. Full of resentment towards his boss, a limousine chauffeur has given himself a day off to look for a girlfriend who had ditched him. Written by L.H. Wong <lhw@sfs.org.sg>
A fascinating film, depicting the chaos and loneliness of modern life. The acting is uniformly excellent and the pace and intertwining of the various stories is great. My favorite segment is with the girl who steals a man's cell phone and then calls him on it, but all the stories are good. This was the best picture I saw in 1997.
