  • Continuity: A shot at 83:52 shows the door of the bus being closed but the next shot (at 83:56) shows the door open.

  • Anachronisms: The fateful Christmas in question is in December 1964, but a news item on the radio reports a speech given by President Kennedy, killed a year earlier.

  • Boom mic visible: During the movie's climactic scene with Joe and Simon in the hospital.

  • Continuity: When Simon looks for his trading cards, he puts his flashlight down facing one way, but when he turns to see the fateful baseball illuminated by the flashlight, it is facing the other direction.

  • Continuity: As the bus heads down the hill towards the lake we see Simon with his glasses on - then there is a close-up of him without his glasses, then as the bus hits the water he's wearing them again and they fly off and hit the floor.

  • Factual errors: The day Joe's mother dies, the narrator says at 33:50 it is October 30, 1964. Nobody, particularly in Maine, would be playing little league baseball in late October. At 51:10, Bob Baker tells Joe and Simon "good luck on your first day of school", which would not occur after October 30.

  • Anachronisms: Throughout the entire film, Simon can be seen wearing a hearing-aid (behind the ear). These were developed in the 1960's, however the model seen in the movie was not available until after 1964.

  • Continuity: When the reverend is outside speaking to the Sunday school teacher before the Christmas play, he has a ring on in one scene but not the next.

  • Continuity: In the scene where both boys are in the school, just before breaking in Father's office, the dog is licking Simon's glasses, this leaves a wet smeared mark. In the next shot, the glasses are clear again.
