Storyline

Sonia and Woody are forced to come to terms with the loss of their only son who was killed in a hit-and-run accident and the driver did not stop. Woody's grief knows no bounds and refuses to believe that the man accused of the crime is actually responsible. Over the Christmas holidays his loss becomes unbearable and his marriage starts to crumble. However, the real culprits of the crime start to feel guilty and volunteer information about the real criminals which puts the investigating officers in a dilemma about what should be done. A Big Surprise!

This under-rated & rarely-seen drama is a little gem. It's about the effect on an ordinary East London couple when they lose their only son in a hit-and-run accident.

But just as it threatens to slide into maudlin sentimentality the plot takes a totally unexpected turn before a climax that will leave you gasping.

Ray Winstone won the awards for a showy turn as the grieving, wounded Father but for me Pauline Quirke takes the acting honours with a restrained performance as his wife
