Production values wasted on dumb porn
HAWAII SEX-O is a XXX crime story but does not involve Jack Lord or any other police. Attractive authentic location backdrops are present, but the movie and its porn content stink.
Presented by the fakir known as "42nd St. Pete" it has plenty of misinformation provided by the pretend wino. I didn't spot the promised Christine De Shaffer in the cast, and he confused a couple of other actresses in his idiotic liner notes
Protagonists Delilah and Perry are introduced in what seems mid-film, as perhaps a reel or two are missing in the print issued for DVD by After Hours Cinema. They hump on the beach in a tribute to FROM HERE TO ETERNITY but after his money shot a guy shows up with a gun and kidnaps Delilah in an ambulance.
She wakes up in the clutches of a would-be Fu Man Chu styled villain, only he's played by a Caucasian "actor" (porn euphemism) with a mustache who talks in pidgin English and smokes a hookah pipe. Several sex scenes follow, first two with ugly frizzy-haired women but film picks up in what struck me as nearly an experimental sequence.
In the early '70s there were several porn films made that emphasized extreme closeups, filling the screen alarmingly (remember, these were shown in real theaters, not just the so- called shoebox "grind houses" popularized by Pete and his mainstream equivalent Tarantino). I remember sitting through some eye-popping sequences.
Here a really beautiful woman gives Delilah a massage and suddenly we are treated to her fingering our heroine in the most extreme closeups I've seen outside of a nature documentary. Magnification is so high that her lacquered fingernail takes up almost the entire screen at times, and poor Delilah's vagina is not a pretty sight.
After this weird interlude, film returns to form -Perry rescues Delilah, they find the missing cocaine (a small bag ludicrously valued at $1,000,000) and end up fighting over it as the lousy actor playing Perry begins overacting and fortunately pays the ultimate price for his hamminess. Helicopter footage gives this the patina of a real film, and it ends with an inappropriate quote on screen from Shakespeare's Henry VI: "Unless you be possess'd with devilish spirits, you cannot but forbear to murder me". The anonymous filmmakers certainly didn't exercise much forbearance.
