Storyline

In Jefferson Creek, North Carolina, the colors of autumn signal Friday night lights, and high-school quarterback Danny Shepherd is the main event. He and his friends, Shane and Taz, live for the present, where good-natured fun often turns into trouble. A simple-minded sketch artist named Aaron looks up to Danny and the others as his only friends. After his mother is hospitalized by her abusive husband, Aaron commits a desperate act he cannot fully grasp: the murder of his own father. The boys vow to protect Aaron by covering up the evidence, but one bad choice gives dark rise to another. As suspicion mounts and Danny struggles to hold on to a promising future, the four friends face the hardest test of their young lives--one that asks for the meaning of true loyalty. Written by JR

Slow-moving crime drama
9 July 2005 | by (usa) – See all my reviews

Slow-moving crime thriller tells the story of four young friends who will do anything for each other. When the dim bulb of the group kills his abusive stepdad, the boys close ranks to protect him. From that point, nothing goes right and the chase is on. A very slow-moving chase. The actors are terrific, but they are not given a heck of a lot to work with here. It is a film about loyalty and honesty, but not enough happens to keep our interest. Peter Facinelli, familiar from TV, is the conflicted lead trying to do the right thing, even if the right thing is wrong. Chris Isaak, Tom Arnold and Amy Irving lend able support. In a very odd way, FALL with its patchwork band of "brothers" reminds me of FIRE IN THE SKY, a little-seen 1993 sci-fi melodrama about several similar young men trapped in a situation not entirely of their making. Peter ("Chicago Hope") Berg plays a character very similar to Facinelli's in FIRE, if you are familiar with that cult favorite.
