Taylor's second disturbingly unconventional role in two years (after THE YEAR MY VOICE BROKE) shows his amazing ability as an actor - of course, the whole world knows he went on to become the young Helfgott in SHINE. His portrayal of a thoughtful, introverted teenager who is seduced by his mother's lonely friend (Jones, in one of her better roles) while mowing her lawn is absolutely first-rate. Wright explores the relationship and society's rejection of it in the hour he gives himself, and the result is not a great film by any stretch of the imagination, but an interesting and different one that deserves to be remembered.
