Film version of Melvin Van Peebles' Broadway musical. A pair of devil-bats take human form and crash a Harlem house party in an attempt to break it up. But somehow, their attempts to ruin the party fail.
A three-paneled look at the worldwide AIDS crisis: in Montreal, a porn actor (Ashmore) schemes to pass his mandatory blood test; a young nun (Sevigny) makes a personal sacrifice for the benefit of a South African village; in rural China, a black market operative (Liu) posing as a goverment-sanctioned blood drawer jeopardizes an entire village's safety.
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. what starts out as a simple scam quickly collapses into robbery, murder, mayhem and enough plot twists to satisfy anybody. Lesley Ann Warren looks (and acts) very well, and Mario Van Peebles has put together a nice gem of a movie. I recommend it to anyone who likes to keep guessing right up to the end.
