a definite 9

A movie about taking decisions in life, about love and >duty, about love and professional accomplishments. Stuhr is very successful in combining romance/drama with good humor. And you don't have to be Polish to like or understand this movie. It is addressed to everyone.

Definitely worth your attention.

Warning: Spoilers
Stuhr has been a famous actor for years, but this is only the second film where he is on both sides of the camera. The film depicts stories from lives of 4 people. I'd like to say "love stories", but you might think this is a melodrama. It's not. It's a very fresh and unusual view of life problems. Men in their 40's facing important choices that may influence their lives or careers.

What I like most about the film would probably be considered a fault by "cinema lovers". The film uses simple techniques and avoids overblown form. It's rather a prose of life than artistic poetry. It also say what I always thought: the simpler you are, the smaller your problems. The Thief's problems are the least complicated. He's the only winner, the three other men are losers.

Summarizing, the film has a few faults, but it's original, and personally I see those faults as advantages. I give it a promising 7/10.

What a BS

This is one of the worst movies I ever saw. Period.

Too many symbols that lead to nowhere. Serious continuity errors (like band aid that somehow appears on colonel's face) and locations that make no sense (e.g. parking lot of the most ugly building in Warsaw aka Palace of Culture that supposedly is court building or whatever director/screen writer imagined).

Dedication to Kieślowski is a very sour joke. At least Kieślowski had enough self-esteem to hire others to write his screenplays. Mr. Stuhr is a very good actor and he should remain one.

Worst of all: this movie is boring. One can not figure out why the same actor is playing four different people. I still wonder why some good actors, like Ms. Ostałowska, decided to take part in this production.

You can forget renting this movie. No loss: save 87 minutes of your life.
