Several of the location shoots throughout the entire series were shot in Cambridgeshire and involved not just the cast and real firefighters from the London fire brigade but also featured crews from Cambridge fire and rescue service too.
The show originated as a one-off television film made in 1986 and written by acclaimed screenwriter Jack Rosenthal. It was picked up as a series by London Weekend Television and premiered on ITV in 1988, although Rosenthal had no involvement with the series.
In the 14 series of the show (including the pilot TV movie) the uniform that is used on a shout has changed 4 times and the station uniform has changed once. The only uniform which has not changed since the pilot been the function uniform in that time. All 3 of the latest uniforms at the time were featured in series 13.
