While speaking at a panel about the book "Slimed" in NYC on 9/27/13. Billy West told the audience the reason he didn't return to voice Doug was the studio wanted him to voice 8 more characters for the Disney show at the same pay. And at the time he lived in NY and didn't want to fly every week to California. See more »

Today I was bored out of my mind. I had too much time to kill and nothing to do. So I flip on my TV and turn on the newer version of "Doug," which is now immortalized on the Disney Channel through re-runs. As a kid, I grew up watching the original Doug and enjoyed every second of it. When it got carried over to ABC (Thus, becoming the version I am reviewing right now) I saw one episode, thought "Boy is this lame" and avoided it like the plague. Well, I was watching it today, and something weird happened: I was laughing uncontrollably. The episode I was watching was the one where Doug and Skeeter stop being friends because Skeeter starts dating Bebe (the snobby rich girl) and Roger Klotz tries to get an impending flood named after him. This episode was absolutely HILARIOUS! I never laughed this much in the entire 12 year history of Doug. An example of this: The school is in an assembly where their principal notifies them of the oncoming flood, and Roger Klotz starts to have a fantasy about all of the destruction, and then it shows his brain fizzling and he says "Stupid brain." It's just dumb little things like that sprinkled throughout. I guess either you had to be there, or I have an odd sense of humor. Regardless, this episode was the funniest thing on TV I've seen in years and I wish I had recorded it. Now, even though I am too old for this stuff, I am going to start watching the re-runs religiously. I think I may have missed an untapped goldmine of laughs.
